Just a word to the wise. I think it's a good idea (now) to tie those ladders off when you're working on anything.

I took a tumble off a step ladder getting up on the swim platform of our boat (on trailer) on Monday. Next thing I remember is sitting in the E/R. It took me awhile to start to piece things back together but I was on the 4th. or 5th. rung of the ladder about to step onto the swim platform when it slipped out from under me. Swim platform is about 5-1/2' above the ground. Apparently (cause I'm still missing some time) I got up, went in the house, surfed the net and watched some TV when the wifey asked me if I was ok? I asked when did we move the boat? Thats when she said "take a shower we're going to the E/R!" Last thing I remember was dangling in mid air. Don't remember actually hitting the ground.

You never know when you ticket is gonna get punched!

Next time I'll wear a PFD (Personal Flying Device)!

Same thing nearly happened to me a couple weeks ago Knotty. I don't guess ladders were really intended to be stepped off of. Glad you're alright! :)

I don't remember hitting the ground but for a second there it was like in the old cartoons, suspended in space, feet flailing around... You get the picture.

Maybe something like this...

Must have been going around on Monday....I too was using our Thanksgiving holiday to winterize the boat. Was at the top of the step ladder about to get onto the swim platform when away the ladder went. Thankfully, I had just got one foot on the swim platform before it went over so I avoided the air time you experienced. Scared the $#%@ out of me though!

Re: Tie off those ladders

I read this awhile ago and have been looking for these pictures ever since. My brother had a ladder come out from under him while he had a sheet of heavy oak plywood in his hands. He went into the house, smoked a cigarette(and he rolls his own) watched tv, and then told his wife that maybe they should go have it looked at.He broke his arm in 4 places, ended up with a couple of metal plates and a cast over top of the stitches.I cant find the pictuire with the cast but it went up over his elbow almost to his shoulder. You get the idea.Be careful.

Kind of ironic in a way. People worry about falling into the water from the boat and end up falling on the driveway(garage, yard, where ever) even though it was from a ladder but involved a boat. At any rate, sounds like you got lucky, you just suffer some memory lapse and nothing more serious.

Huh? Sorry, what were we talking about? ;-)

Thnx. for the all the thoughts fella's. After it all, if you can't laugh at yourself you have no right to laugh at anybody else!

Next time I'll put some pillows or inflated tire tubes under the swim platform! Cheers and stay safe.
