Tilt and trim bracket cracked

Evinrude Johnson OMC 5032243 - Swivel Bracket is equivalent to parts:

Yea I really don't want to have to take power head off just to change this out! It looks like just the shift rod goes through it, but it is a Suzuki that evinrude sold as their own

Is it possible water got into the bracket and froze, cracking it? I had that happen on a Merc 850 triple clamp. It was over the steering shaft part of the component. I had it welded and made sure no more water got into it.

In your case, the crack suggests a design defect, if not cracked from ice. If a design defect, and you can get an uncracked replacement, maybe some sort of reinforcement of the component could be done.

Ok the pic of the one from e bay that has cracks in same place as mine, the seller messaged back and told me that those are casting marks they are just on the surface do not go through. So I checked mine and they are just on surface they don't show on under side what y'all think?

Can you stick an exacto knife blade tip or other razor into the casting mark? That might tell you if it is a crack or not.

I took a razor knife down the marks it does not go in

Awww what ?!! You got us all fired up over a casting flash ,someone even suggested there might have been some impact involved

Properly focused Images of the 'Crack' would have been helpful. Casting Mark did cross my mind, but being that there wasn't one on the Starboard Side of the mirroring the 'Crack', I pushed it aside

Don't feel bad. I replaced my Johnson 150HPV6 OMS pump because of a crack and leak. It turned out to be a casting mark and a leaking Oring, and $500 for the new pump. Now the orig OMS pump was from '98, so replacing it was not stupid, IMO. My motto is Better to replace it too early, than too late.
