Maybe i can help, its winter here. Whats that lever do, and has this unit ever worked with this motor before. My trim unit has nothing of the sort of that lever but its a 60 nor my mates 90

Thanks... Yes, it worked before I took the trim/tilt system off of the transom to work on it. The lever is part of the sending unit that controls the trim gauge in the dash. As the motor trims down it pushes the lever down and the potentiometer in the sending unit sends the signal to the gauge to move the needle on the gauge down.

There appears to be only one way that the sending unit can be bolted to the transom bracket that holds the engine. There is a place cast into the bracket that holds the sending unit which is simply bolted on with two bolts. It can be tilted slightly up/down by loosening the top bolt, allowing you to adjust the gauge to match the actual trim position of the engine.

Once again, the issue I'm having is that the lever will not clear the electric motor on the tilt/trim unit where as before I took the system off, it did. Obviously I have to be missing something straight forward, which is why I'm hoping someone has a picture of one that is properly installed.

Thanks all!

Chris, do you have this system on your boat? (Fas-Trac) If so, can you check to see how much clearance there is between the 90 degree bend in the lever and the top of the electric motor

Yes, from the very blurry pic in the manual, is does look like it is at least in the correct orientation. Is there any possible way that the actual trim/tilt unit itself could be installed incorrectly? Being that it is held on by only the top and bottom pins, I think there’s only one possible way to install it too.

The lever on mine hits here when you try to push it through its length of travel.078B60CE-089A-48F6-95C1-39D0F58401EA.jpeg s

Maybe if you loosen and reinstall the unit you will find where there is potential for lateral movement, and move it to port. 1/4" is a lot.

CB025C62-E891-404C-AA79-C72DC9ADDA66.jpeg I decided to shim it with a couple of stainless steel washers. That seems to have solved the issue with it hitting the motor. I still think it’s hitting the wire whenever it’s trimmed all the way in but I can’t see it so I don’t know for sure.
It still looks like the electric motor needs to be turned clockwise 90° which gets the wire completely out-of-the-way, but if I’m reading the directions in the service manual correctly it is on properly now.

I saw two other boats at the shop today. I was right, the electric motor needs to be turned 90 degrees counter clockwise.

Always nice to be able to inspect another of the same model. Ive being seen getting very close to other peoples cars which hasnt gone down well.
Did you have the trim motor off or has it always being installed in a incorrect position?

I had everything off. Should've taken a picture prior to disassembly. (and shouldn't have let it sit on my workbench for 5 months. :D Oh well. The boat is in the shop now for the motor issues... see my thread... https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...812753-‘99-johnson-115-running-on-2-cylinders
When I get it back I'll try to turn that motor back into the proper position. Right now, I think it will work with the trim limiter set a bit lower than normal to keep it from pinching the wires.
