Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

83mulligan,
Glad to have you watching.
I'm going with the standard open teak because I want it to be able to breath, and dry. I know water will get in because of wet skis, and I have a cooler in the bow that drains into the locker and then into the bilge.
Once again Thanks
Bob

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Bob,

Did you use any mechanical fasteners to secure the deck while the glues dried? If not, did the PL seem to allow the deck to settle into the PL?

I am not too keen on running 50 some screws into my new deck, especially after the bottom glass is fully cured next weekend. I am concerned about the PL being to thick and floating the deck leaving voids.

Thanks!

Thanks,
I appreciate the comments.
Has anyone ever found anything in the rotting wood?
My boat could be used for fishing, I found live worms in some of the rotting wood.
Built in live bait box.
Now that is gross.LOL

tdrudd87,
I did use some stainless screws but only 4 in the front part and two in each of the side panels. I wanted to make sure it didn't float. I also pre-drilled, The glass on the top of my stringers.
ShamusCrowley,
Not really that gross, a little salt and pepper makes all the difference. LOL :D
It was a big surprise.
Take care all.

Hey 83mulligan,
Thanks for the remarks.
I wish I could work on the boat, but I won't be home for another week. Then perhaps I can get some more work done.
Thanks again

Keep on making the cash and you can trick it out when you get back.

Just bought a portable Status 5 Sirius radio kit. It was raining but I'm still thinking about it :)

Keep us up to date as you're always helping others so we can't wait for you to get a chance to enjoy your boat too.

sprintst,
Well your right about one thing,
I keep shopping for things I want and some I actually need. At least I'll have them when I need then. Can't wait to get back at it.
Take care and thanks again.

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello Folks,
Sorry, I've been away for awhile. Work and normal life got in the way.
I did get home last weekend but not a lot of work on the boat. Wife had to many items for me to do. I did manage a few hours but not enough.
I got about 2/3's of the the deck glassed in with two layers of 1.5 oz CSM.

I still have the right side to glass in and then the motor mounts. But hey it was something.
I also got my new gimble bearing, New shift shaft seals in the bell housing and trim limit and trim sender installed.

Bell housing shift seals.

The next trip home I'm hoping to get more done, if I ca keep my wife from breaking stuff.:p
I have a lot of reading to get caught up on, from all of your threads.
Take care

Progress :D

here's a favorite quote that I think fits well to us in the 'resto/make it mine' world...

"Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful.Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb."

83mulligan,
Thanks for stopping by.
I just wish I could get more time on the boat. I would like to use it this year but it doesn't look good.
Thanks again

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello again all.
I haven't been around much lately. Life again. I hope everyone had a great Fourth, I know I did. I had the pleasure of entertaining my three grand children. I have 2 Three year old girls and a 6 year old grandson. Every place I went it was like a parade. They followed me everywhere, and I loved it.
They went home on Thursday so I only got a few things completed on the boat.
Not really much progress. Spent Friday picking up some supply's and then Saturday doing things for the wife.
I did get the rest of the deck glassed in and the front motor mount glassed in.

I'm also adding two pieces of angle to each side of the gas tank hatch, to allow the hatch to rest on, and this is my new hatch.

One other thing I did get cut out was the side motor mounts, I still need to get them laminated a decide if I really want to put a V6 in this thing.

I am now ready to flip this thing over and work on the hull.
The good news is that all the below deck work is completed minus the coating. Bilge kote and deck coating.
I do have a new addition in the next post.
Take Care
Bob
