Hey archbuilder,
Nah, I have been delayed until at least sometime tomorrow. I have to play at my real job tomorrow and then head home.
Sorry.

I hate it when work gets in the way of my boat habit! Have a safe trip back, we are looking forward to more updates!

Bump!
I guess you didn't get to the boat this weekend? Hope you get to play on it before Christmas this week.

Hello everyone,
Well, I finally made it home ( around 1:00 AM this morning).
Nothing really to report on my project yet.
I have a couple Arron's to run tomorrow and then I should be able to get back to the boat. :D
Now I need to catch up on all your projects. :D
Thanks
Bob

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hey guys,
Don't worry about me getting to work. My wife is finding all sorts of things to keep me busy.
I did manage to pick up a belt sander today and I managed to get a layer of glass on the transom.
My wife doesn't like the smell of the fiberglass resin. I told I didn't like it either but she failed to see the humor.
Tomorrow I should be able to get on the boat all day. :D
I plan to get started cleaning up the rough spots in the boat with the belt sander, wipe the entire boat down with acetone, and then get the transom bedded. I will start building the clamp tonight. I'll try to get some pic's tomorrow as well.

Good to see you're home and gettin back at it. Or at least trying to. I've got to the point of almost sneaking around to keep from getting nabbed. BTW I ask Mrs Santa Clause for the HF belt sander and toe-kick saw for Christmas.

Mountain_Man,
You will love that toe kick saw. I have used it a lot. It has become my favorite tool for tearing out. I just went to HD and bought the cheapest belt sander they had. I didn't feel like driving the 60 miles round trip to get to a HF. :)
I hope the BH is kind to you and gets them for you. :p
My BH is still working and still finds things for me to do.
Tomorrow, I'm not answering the phone. :D

Bob are you talking about a clamp for the transom? I just put bolts thru every hole in the transom to clamp it.
My wife didnt like the smell of fiberglass either so for a week I left the door to the mudroom between the house and the garage open. Worked very well

Thanks Mountain_man.

SKIBUM1M,
I going to build a wooden frame work to hold my transom to make sure it is as flat as possible.
I have two pieces of 7/16 all thread to pull it tight. :D

Bob- I can't wait to see the clamp for the transom and your transom work for that matter. That is going to be right around the corner for me I hope! I guess if I use seacast though it will be a little different from the traditional methods.
Good Luck tomorrow on the boat!

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello folks,
Well, I had a good day on the boat. Well, most of it.
I got out all the tools and headed for the boat. Got set up and went to work. Got all the last minute trimming completed.
You know all those little chunks that you never got around to removing. Broke out the new belt sander and headed down the hull one pass one belt. Hum, not what I was expecting. I did have more then one belt but went back to the grinder anyways. In one of the chimes there was a chunk of glass that was pretty heavy, so, I got out the good old toe kick saw.
Do you remember me saying how much I like that thing. It will remove anything in a hurry. Up to and including the bottom of the boat.
I now have a new drain hole in the center of the boat, and I do mean middle.
Thats what I get for not paying attention.
this is the boat with all the grinding completed and wiped with acetone.

I had planned on bedding the transom today but I decided to give it another coat of resin after I ground out a couple bubbles. I'm still waiting for it to dry.
IMG00179.jpg

Well, tomorrow I will get the transom bedded in and try to do a final fit of the main stringers.
On another note. I did get the foot board to my new bed finished. tell me what you think.

Have a good evening all.
