The footboard looks awesome. You do some great work, I must say. I had to chuckle at the tarp over the boat. It goes to show how bad we need to work on our boats. Good luck with it, I'm sure it'll be perfect. If it wasn't so cold here I would have a tarp like yours on it so I could tinker with it.

very nice footboard. Is that ironwork in the center panel? My wife wants a 4 poster bed with a canopy. Maybe when I finish the boat so I have room and then when she gets home I can be like "Hey dear look at your new bed you always wanted... By the way I sold the house to buy supplys for the boat". :D

Isn't it...the more drain holes the faster water gets out? lol I know of another fella who did that and felt too embarrassed to post.. I won't say his name but his initials are M E

Tell us about the scroll work on the footboard...really nice work Bob

& glad to see you got some time again!

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello everyone,
Well, thanks for all the comments. I can't take credit for the iron work, I bought two pieces and mounted one on the head board and one on the foot. I may start making some iron work now that I have a new welder. :D
As for the tarp. My wife won't let me put it in the garage and it won't fit though the doors on my basement workshop. If it would. my wife wouldn't let me put it there either.
She thinks I need a workshop too, but I don't have the cash at the moment.
My wife wanted me to finish it for guest over the holidays, I haven't told her that it still won't be finished in time. :p
The only item I need to finish are the rails.

Hey everyone what's the best way to repair that hole I mentioned? I plan to grind it out smooth and just build glass back up. I will put something on the bottom (outside)too make sure I hold the correct contours.
Have a great evening all
Bob

I was lucky and didnt have any oopses like that but I would say to grind it then start laying the heaviest matt you have with each layer extending at least 1 inch past the previous till you build up to the thickness of the rest of the hull.
I finished my woodworking project and am going to upload pics now on my thread. check them out if you have time. nowhere neer as formal as yours but they were cheep and for the kids who will be tough on them anyway.

The truth is in the love and fun of a project, not the size or complexity.
Just have fun and enjoy.

True. But I much prefer to do more chalenging projects. I didnt get to play with dovetails or any nice wood. The wife sent me a link to toys r us website and said "build this" Oh well at least its not particle board or built in china.

Sorry to hear about the bottom of the boat but I am sure it will be an easy fix for you. The foot board looks great. I'm glad you finally got to put some time in on the boat.

Bob maybe you should give up on this restore and just build a boat out of wood from scratch. If i could do wood like your footboard, i'd be making a copy of an old chriscraft or something.

Bob the wood working looks good.... I have been doing a minor wood working project for a Christmas present....I'm post some shots of it on my thread tomorrow. Sorry to hear about the new drain plug! If you find some thing to contour the outside of you patch, put packing tape on it...glass doesn't stick to it at all, pops right off. Glad to hear you are back home making some progress!

Bob, everything looks awesome. We are pretty much at the same plce in our projects- just finished sanding, and just put a hole in the hull! I did that to mine too a couple threads ago in my posting I have a pic. I am thinking of filling it with that bubbles adhesive? And some matte. I can't go to thick though because mine hole is right where the deck sits. Good luck, let me know how you make out. I won't be getting out to the garage again until the seacast arrives! I'm actually in my hot tub right now relaxing and posting on the iPhone!

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hey all,
Thanks for all the good comments.
Kenny26, someday maybe. Got to finish this beast first.
Well, it is now "official". The Restoration has turned the corner, We are now putting things back in instead of taking them out. :D
The new transom with clamps, from the inside of the boat.

The same from the outside.

One more shot with a slight side angle.
IMG00182.jpg

I think that is all I can post this time.
The wood along the side is just to keep things from getting out of hand. I couldn't see how to handle ten 2x4's, 2 threaded rods, nuts, washers and the wrench all at the same time.
Be right back.
So this was my solution.

Bob, I really think you need to rethink that. There is no way that you are going to get more than 1,000,000 PSI out of that jig when you tighten it up.....:D

Looks really nice....I can tell you have spent some time thinking through that!

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

archbuilder,
Darn, I was hoping for 1,500,000. Oh well, it will just have to do. :p
I just wanted to make sure it stayed were I put it.
Now I have steps to get this old butt in and out of the boat. :D
Thanks guys.
Have a very Merry Christmas.

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

First and foremost, I want to wish all my fellow Iboaters a very, very Merry Christmas. :D
I know it is Christmas Eve, but hey I still have work to do.
I really hate waiting for things to dry.
However I got the outside stringers dry fitted and then pulled all the stringers out to put a coat of resin on them.
After they dried I put them back in. I also got some of the PB around the transom.
I first tried wood flower but really didn't like it I think I got it to dry.
The second round I went with some chopped up FG and a little wood flower and it worked perfect.
Any ways here are a couple boring pic's.
First is with all the stringers.
IMG00186.jpg

The next is just the stringers with a coating of resin. I did round over all the edges too.
IMG00188.jpg

I don't know how much more I'll be able to get done the temp is supposed to drop tomorrow. :p
One more thing, Give me your thoughts. I plan to put 3 layers of 18oz roven on and then 1 layer of 1.5oz to smooth it out. my transom is now 1.98" thick.
The glass I mentioned should put me at around 2.1".
Any opinions?
Once again Merry Christmas All.
Bob
