Dear Evinrude dealers,
In order to fulfil our commitment to provide you with a complete line of Evinrude? engines, we
are pleased to inform you that BRP has signed an agreement with Tohatsu Corporation to
supply us as early as 2012 with a range of four-stroke Evinrude outboard engines from 3.5HP to
15HP.
You have been asking for a complete and wider range of Evinrude engines and the Tohatsu
agreement will allow us to meet that need in the lower horsepower offering. Moreover, we are
confident that this extension of our product offering, below 15HP, will provide a full-range
solution to meet your needs and consumers' expectations.
The Evinrude lower horsepower engines will be available in early 2012 and order details and
availability will be shared before the end of this year. At this time, we will also provide you with
full details about the lower horsepower Evinrude engines.
As you are aware from announcements made earlier this year, we are investing heavily in the
Evinrude business including a $15 million investment in our state-of-the-art facility in Sturtevant,
Wisconsin, U.S., and this agreement with Tohatsu, confirming an important addition to the
Evinrude line-up, constitutes a key milestone in our outboard engine strategy. Meanwhile, our
focus continues to be on the continued development and manufacturing of high-value, higher
horsepower Evinrude engines using the E-TEC technology, which BRP will continue to enhance
with industry-leading features and benefits over the years to come.
Thank you for your business and as always, we look forward to earning more of it in the future.
Best regards,
Yves Leduc
Vice-President & General Manager

This is GREAT!!! I bought a new (in 2006) 9.8hp Tohat.

I could have bought a Mercury 9.8 but to get the black paint it would've cost a LOT more!!

NOW I can get it in White! With Rude (and I guess John) on the side!!

I LOVE IT!!!

Let me also add that as good as the ETECs are, I suppose they just cannot compete with 4 stroke engines in the 15hp and lower class.....

Cheers,

Rick

Starting off from scratch would be expensive for BRP short term. To quote to the higher powers at Tohatsu,

"Tohatsu World Domination has begun:)"

Yeah, they started O/B manufacture in 1956 with the introduction of the OB-2. Must have been the Steve Jobs of outboards.

Ain't that super cool news. Tohatsu owners/dealers should be proud that Bombardier a highly reputed Company has relayed on Tohatsu for providing small engines for their low end market. A Nice start.

Actually, I think Noah had an Evinrude...He couldn't get it to start though so the ark eventually was blown into a shoal:)

Huh? 1956? I ain't following you

How is it older than Ole Evinrudes first patented outboard engine in 1911?

1911 U.S. Patent No. 1,001,260 issued August 22, assigned to Evinrude Motor Co,

In 1911, Tohatsu didn't exist.

According to Tohatsu's own site they were:

Founded on October 20th 1922, Tohatsu Corporation, then named Takata Motor Research Institute, manufactured railcars. R&D of high-speed portable engine generators and radio controlled generators began immediately and were brought to production in 1930.

 didnt noah have one as a kicker?
Noah probably had one of Ole's inventions..... Yah, sure. You betcha!!

Yeah, its all about bidness! Makin $.

At least its nice to hear they made investments in WI. But its still sad to hear that foreign workers won out on one segment of the business. Yeah, yeah, I know its a global economy, yada yada. But if the press release had said that they would be building the new motors in North America I would have felt better.

Re: TohRude's? The world is a funny place

Tohatsu were the pioneers of outboard motor manufacturing in Japan only, not worldwide, won Yamaha for 6 years or more, definitely to build a plant to produce US 2.5 to 15 HP rebadged 4 strokes Evis from 0 would cost a real fortune, one more example of disastrous globalization effect.
