Re: Totaled truck, insurance payout?
In Michigan we have "no fault ins." even if it's the other guys fault your ins. still pays.
I had a 1993 Chevy Caprice wagon 100K at time of purchase, that was in great shape, paid $2200, drove 3 years and put 85K on it. Deer hit #1 they paid me $1900 for the repair. I put a new head light on and banged out the fender, Deer Hit #2 same corner of the car, they paid $3000 and totaled it. I stuck a head light on it and still drove it.
I bought a "New wagon" and was going to sell the totaled one but I had a tree fall on it

Now it's my parts car.
I think you will find that they want to keep you happy, the settlement should be in your favor.
The other thing they did was offer two prices, one if they keep it and one if I kept it. I my case the difference was $300 less if I kept it.
If you can find and still want a like vehicle, try and keep the totaled one, part it out if you need to fix the new one and sell the other parts if you have the time and motivation. Have your son do it, you can make some money with a little effort.
