Just a quick reply. I was just watching TRUCKS! on Spike TV and they tested a Bully Dog tuner on a tow rig. Might want to give them a look too. I am partial to Superchips because they are right here in town, and I have heard bad things about Hypertech, but for what you are using it for I bet any of the handhelds will work perfect.

I have a 5.4 L Ford expedition and towed both the signature boats. I average about 10 MPG loaded. Might help you think about what you want.

I think that the truck you have is good enough. I have a 27' travel traile that probly weighs close 6,000 lbs after it is loaded that I pull with my half ton 99 Chevy Suburban 4x4 with the 5.3l, it does a good job no trans shift problems. It on average get about 11-12 mpg unloaded.

Good luck on what you decide. If you get a 2500 gas it wont get any better mpg, cause my bro had a 04' 2500 4x4 6.0 L and it got better than my Suburban.

So I towed the boat on an extended trip over the weekend. I kept the truck in 3 and the difference was like night and day. As Mnypitboat predicted, the gas gauge needle clearly preferred the E to the F. However, the searching was reduced to the extent that my wife asked why. I still think I'm going to give a tuner a shot. Probably won't go with the Hypertech because you don't get to play with them like you do with the Superchips. Don't know anything about the Bully, but I'll definitely look into it. It's mentioned quite a bit on a GMC truck forum I check out occasionally.
