They might even call it a throttle position sensor . . . which is also incorrect as it is really a pedal position sensor as the throttle is in the intake . . .
With that said, the recall sounds like software to me, but I stayed at a real Holiday Inn (not Express) last night
I read that the cars continue to accelerate if the pedal is drawn back especially slowly. That and the fact it is across a number of models tells me that this might be a code issue. Some weird combo that sends the ECM into a fit. Been there, done that, got the bullet wounds 
what I have is actually a Potentiometer........ drive by wire controls.
