Re: Trailer Lights

I am going to drill holes to allow drainage unless there is a way to make it completely watertight. The plan is to not have it in an area that get's submerged.

I like the fact it has connections inside so you just put a ring connector on the end of the wire instead of soldering or connecting the wires together.

Agree... I wanted one like yours but needed it that day.... My solution works GREAT but it was more work to set it up.

would this be better mounted on the top of the tongue or the side? cant really see how its designed to drain and keep out moisture

I mounted mine on top of the tongue right behind the coupler.... Mine is supposedly sealed but I don't plan to ever dunk n test it.

you COULD even mount it on the side of the winch stand and get it higher yet.

Re: Trailer Lights

I am in the process of rewiring my trailer an bought one of these:
Amazon.com: Conntek 7 Way Plug Inline Trailer Cord with 7 Gang Junction Box, 6-Feet: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Will make it way easier hooking up the new wiring to the pigtail going to the connector.

I had those blue splice connectors in a few spots on my trailer and the wiring within a foot of each of these is completely corroded and can not be used so new wire is going in.

Put the exact same setup on my trailer and it made the wiring a breeze. Makes it easy to troubleshoot, also.

Re: Trailer Lights

I see someone finally stole and marketed my setup.

And mine. I did that about 10 years ago on my trailer when I rebuilt it...

I used a proper electrical enclosure and water-tight glands. Fully submersible to about 6 feet. Cost me a whole $11. It also has the advantage that there are no splices further down the line. Nowhere else for water to get in...

do you have a link showing where to get it? I don't need the plug end like the one shown for my situation so an alternative that is positively sealed works better for me.

if I got the one shown I would throw the plug away and just use the box anyway

No link, but this is the information from the receipt (from 2007)....

I got the enclosure and glands from a standard electrical wholesaler. The box is called "Enclosure Poly (100x100x50)opo.cov.IP55 ABB LE00846" (guess the measurements would be 4x4x2 in USA)... The glands are "Cable gland, 12mm (1/2") IP68, 3-6.5OD" and "Cable gland, 16mm (5/8") IP68, 5-10mmOD"....

The total for the box and 5 glands... $11.85. At that price I don't understand why it's not done from the factory this way... Just cheap-assed stupidity I guess.....

Good luck.
