Re: Trailer too wide for garage door

Disregard my last question. I just saw a picture of a very simple homemade dolly on an ebay auction. It will work perfect. It is so simple that I can't believe I didn't think of it. Thanks for all the help.

Could you share the picture after you win the auction? Thanks a million.

I'm not buying it from ebay, I just happened to see it there for another auction. Here it is.

Well that's exactly the same style as mine in the pic I posted . . . Maybe you thought it was only good for upside down boats? :p :)

New wider door. When I built my garage I bought 10'x10' doors and some times I wish I had 12'x12'. :)

My vote is for a wider door. Bite the bullet for the expense this time and you won't be sorry. You will put the boat in and out of the garage more then you think, so make it easy on yourself from the start.

I'm gonna stick with the dolly. This is gonna be a twice per year transition - in the in fall and out in the spring. When it comes out, it will go to my camp and be in water for the season (on a lift when not in use). When they drain the lake in the fall, the boat will come home and go back in the garage till the next season.

Re: Trailer too wide for garage door

Anyway, I did have dolly's in mind, but I'm not really sure how to go about making them. I'm dealing with a 17.5' deep-v that weighs around 1700 lbs dry (I think). Is it possible to just get some 1000 lb aluminum movers dollys and use some 4x4's to build a vee? (stack & then cut the v) I could probably pull this setup off for $100 or less.

My 21'7" pontoon boat (~1850#)will fit into my garage over the Winter..The 26' trailer is too long and the "toon" on the trailer is too high for the door. Today I bought 6- 4" metal casters (660 lb capacity) at $ 4.44 each and will be making a dolly: 4 -8' 2X6 crosspieces..with two 16 ft long 2X6 sides..the 6 casters placed underneath: ends/centers. I can pull/push the boat on the trailer on my concrete driveway w/o much effort. The "dolly" should work to get the boat inside..once I jack the boat up a little to get the trailer out from underneath.
Easier for me as its "flat" on the bottom of the logs VS your Deep V
