Found a boat (2000 Chaparral Sunset 232 deck boat) that I am interested in buying. One problem....NO trailer. How hard is it to find a reasonably priced used trailer that would work for this boat? Or, do I have to consider a custom built one for a precise fit? Any help is greatly appreciated!

No need for a custom trailer. Most trailers are adjustable and it is not rocket science to make them fit. I think Craigslist is a good place to start to find some trailers in your area.

If you decide to go with new, I have seen some 'Venture' brand trailers at good prices. The cost of metal has seemed to come down and trailers are less expensive than they have been in the past.

Most trailers are made from the same set of parts, so there is very little difference between brands . . . unless you go in the pricey arena.

One man's "reasonably priced" is another's man "ARE YOU STINKIN' CRAZY??". Depending on your budget, and your buying market area, there a lots of trailers. At least in my neck of the woods.

Re: Trailerless boat....need input

I just went through this, used all the search engines, and I spent about a month (maybe a bit less) looking for used trailers online, then traveling to the few good ones I found. Of the few that I saw in person most were broken, rusted and needed a lot so I passed on them. I put money down on the only one I found that was worthy. I can't discuss why I don't have that trailer :( I ended up being forced to buy new. A great decision as it turns out. Most trailers need work and at some point it's not worth the time/trouble when new comes with a 2 year warranty.

I should mention that I was looking for a larger, HD trailer which limited my choices some. But, before you travel to look at a used trailer ask for good photos of wheels, suspension, brakes, rust spots and other issues. Most sellers are honest and if you ask they'll show you so you know before you drive.

being pretty picky (OK, being a good bit paranoid  ) about the trailer I trust to carry our both at highway speeds for hours on end, I'd go new with a few requirements .... first galvanized, not painted .... second the seller (business) would have to agree to set it up for the boat and agree to make needed adjustments if they should needed after the boat is loaded .... third, I'd want new trailer tires that are rated to handle the weight .... being broken down on the side of the road isn't my idea of fun, been there, done that
