transmission or not?

This may be the dumbest question....
I have a 2000 7.4 MPI with a Bravo 3 on it. Does this have a transmission with oil that I have to check? The mercruiser service manual does not seem that clear to me as to whether it would have a transmission.

Recently, I was on a river and my RPM dropped way down and the boat vibrated. It went away, but later when I looked at the prop, I saw the blades polished on the tips and the front blade tips almost look bent. Mechanic said they could be straightened and no big deal, but my big worry is the whirring noise I now have when I put it into gear. I didnt have this noise before. Could it be due to a bent prop? I know noises are hard to deal with on the internet, but any input/experience with similar situation is appreciated.

Well.....no. It doesn't have a transmission.

It does have a gear driven outdrive that has a lube reservoir and a monitor system that will usually sound an alarm if it gets low.

Have a look at your owners manual and you'll find instructions on how to check it.

If you have the drive serviced once a year or so, they'll change the oil and should ensure that the drive lube reservoir is draining into the drive correctly.

If a prop blade was bent a little you may or may not experience vibration. If you bent one of the shafts, it could absolutely cause vibration.

Thanks! I just had it serviced, but by a total monkey who charged me $120 an hour and proceeded to leave one nut finger tight and another but completely off the water pump. So, I have little faith in him, but the resovoir is full and another mechanic told me that if I had done something to the sterndrive, it would have come apart hours ago.

You may want to ensure that the above has been done.

Sometimes (with the synthetic lube oil used) a plugged reservoir will stop draining into the drive and not alert you of low oil (due to a leak, under-servicing etc)

If that happens, it WILL destroy the drive by starving the upper bearings and gears.

You probably shouldn't go back to the $120/hr "Monkey"!...you might find yourself another Merc dealer......I don't think most "Authorized" Mercruiser dealers charge that much.....
