Transom-Mounted Transducer Pictures?

I am going to be mounting a new transducer on my transom and was wondering if anyone could post a picture of their location that has yielded the best results.

I have a 16ft aluminum hull, 50HP Merc outboard with stiffeners that run along the length. Your basic small lake boat. I've read up on all the mounting tips and can't decide if I should mount it in between the set of ribs closest to the middle or further out. The hull has three ribs on each side of the motor, so that gives me two choices of placement. Transom width is 72".

My hull angle in the back is pretty flat, about 8 degrees. The boat is an '89 Astro Lake Sport 16V Pro. My transducer is the Eagle Tri-Beam with up to 150 deg cone angle.

Thanks :)

Re: Transom-Mounted Transducer Pictures?

bcditoledo,
I have no experience with this except that I'm about to do the same thing. My boat's previous owner apparently had a transducer in exactly the same spot that my instructions tell me to put mine, so I'm hoping it's right.

Here's what I got out of my instructions, just in case it helps with your application. According to the instructions, I need to get the transducer as close to the centerline as possible to prevent the keel from interfering with the signal on one side (v hull). But, the catch is that I have to have a minimum 3" clearance from the circumference of the prop. This prevents the transducer from being mounted directly on the keel. I have a 20 deg pitch on my transom, so I have to adjust the bottom of the transducer out to prevent the signal cone from being pitched too far forward. Also, the back of the transducer plane should be ever so slightly (1/8") lower than the front. Any lower and it introduces unnecessary drag. If it's equal to or higher than the front, the resulting turbulence may interfere with the signal. As a result, the optimal position on my boat appears to be about 12" from the keel, which is exactly where the last transducer was. I can't remember the name of the transducer (triducer) I'm installing, but it came with my Furuno LS4100 Fishfinder. My boat is a 17' aluminum Starcraft with 100 hp Merc.
Hope this proves somewhat helpful. Sorry, no pictures. Maybe tonight when I get home.

About 12 inch to starbord of your engine but not lined up with any rivets or ribs/stakes. Useally either side of the speedometer pitot tube. Do not align to the hull but instead point straight down. Mount so at least one half of the transducer is below the hull on the deeper side of the V. I would mount on a transducer glued to the hull so you do not have to drill any holes in the hull.

http://www.lowrance.com/Support/installation_guide.asp
http://www.lowrance.com/Tutorials/transducerguide.asp
