I'm in the middle of my transom and stringers replacement. 3/4 of the deck is complete and in place. I happened to be grinding away at the transom joint and went thru the bottom of the boat a teenie bit. It is not more then 2 inches. My question is should i sand the inside down so its even and go from there or do a inside and outside patch?
I'm just wondering the best way possible the boat also has minor chips thru the gel on the outside.
Any advice?
I will also be putting up all the pictures for members to view once i get a little ahead on this.
thanks
garrett

Re: transom replacement...

Garrett,
You should first repair the hull hole from the inside with proper fiberglass and resin for strength and then finish the outside gelcoat for sealing and cosmetics. Since you are already doing your stringers and transom you should be able to combine that fiberglass work with your patching of the accidental hull cut.

Check out this site for lots of good examples of transom, floor and stringer work being done by a large group of dedicated Mako owners. If you read through all of their repair sites you will obtain some great advice and knowledge based on their many hours of work:

http://www.classicmako.com/projects.htm

Click on the individual project boats to see what each owner did to his boat. This is an amazing website.
