Found out I did have a bad down solenoid on the trim pump so I replaced both up and down solenoids, re-cleaned everything up real real good and put it all back together today. Good news is that it works. Bad news is that it still takes a couple of seconds after hitting the switch for it to finally kick in, it makes noise and hesitates before it finally goes full giddyup. After getting it going it runs ok but if it sits for a few minutes it does it again. Should I suspect the motor? Someone earlier said I might have "tight rams". How do I know if that is the case and how do I fix that?

Thanks bondo! The trim pump motor was replaced with a brand new one less than 2 years ago by a repair shop. Still looks brand new but last year I had an issue with a rotten swim step that allowed water to fill the bilge cuz people were leaning on the stern. Saw water puddle back by dog house and made everyone abandon ship, pumped all the water out and everything worked fine rest of last year, but I think the solenoids got wet (they were all rusty on the back) and probably so did the trim motor. Starter escaped drowning, that still works and looks great. I'll replace the motor, and yes, the swim step problem has been fixed.

Just a thought..... Are sure the system is not getting any air in the lines after the pump sits for a while?
