trim tilt help

I have a 454 mag with merc alpha 1 '87 Baja 240 Sport. The outdrive will go down with the trim down button, but the trim up does not work. luckily there is a trailer button, that I can push in to raise the outdrive when needed. is this probably a short somewhere? How would I check? Thanks,

Chances are, you have either a bad trim limit switch on the gimbal ring, or the wires have rotted off. Happens all the time.
Go to the "Adults Only" sticky at the top of the fourm, locate the Merc service manual link and download #6 manual. The troubleshooting section covers your problem in detail.

I had the same problem and found the muscrats ate through the wire Don S is talking about...
