Re: trim wires?
...what the seloc book says ...
can not be trusted!!! End of story.
HERE is a link to a downloadable copy of the OEM manual. You'll find it far more accurate...
Ok, that's precisely why I asked for an engine serial number/year. Back then the trim sender was attached to the inside of the transom, at the top of the inner transom plate. It's operated hydraulically, and the limit switch (you're calling 'light' for some reason) is inside the top of the gimbal ring and actuated by a raised section on the bell housing.
The wires from the sender...
Should be a couple of black leads from it, one with a purple sleeve on it. They should have either bullet connectors or rings on the end. There is a spare wire in the harness, taped off which is purple. You can use that are the feed for the trim gauge, or you can run a new wire from the transom to the instrument cluster, your choice.
The limit switch connects into the trim pump harness and (when it was working) limits the UP trim available. When that limit is reached, the way to get the drive into the TRAILER or FULL UP position is to press the UP and UP/OUT buttons together, depending on which trim control panel you have...
A picture of the trim sender, gimbal ring and trim control panel will help us help you....
