Re: Trolling Motor Brand???

I found this at another site.
THis is what it said:

I have a 1996 evinrude bf4ts trolling motor and was wandering about the size of the prop that is to be used on it. I currently have a 12 3/4 x4 on there and it seems a little to big, I have seen a couple other trolling motors with a lot smaller prop can any one tell me the correct prop for this trolling motor

Hope it helps

Re: Trolling Motor Brand???

Does OMC make Evinrude? The reason I ask is because Pewterwyz has an Evinrude with the same model number and my Trolling motor has a Decal on it (the one I said was wore off) and I can barely read the first two letters which look like an EV...

OOOPS some confusion. I don't have one. That was a copy paste.
It looks like OMC made Evinrude. What I put in the post was some lines from another web site.
I did find a site that listed your number as a
1994 motor by Evinrude.

Go here
http://www.skoterskroten.com/batmotorer/Listor/arsmodellstabell.pdf
and you will find your motor. No mention of the thrust.

I don't know who made it but it has a unique design. The shaft has about a 6" offset in it or a bend down near the bottom not sure why it is made this way. Most of the MinKota's I have seen have a straight shaft, but that don't mean anything!

Re: Trolling Motor Brand???

I had a 1988 Johnson 12-24 volt trolling motor for many years. It is the same as yours. You should like that motor. I sure liked mine!

OMC calculated the thrust different on their motors compared to the other makers. A comparison is quite meaningless to you because it should have all the power you will need. It has six speeds. Speeds one, two and three run on 12 volts or one battery. Speeds four, five and six run on 24 volts or two batteries.

Most of the time I never ran past speed three. For me the higher speeds were for heavy current. With this motor you can go out with just one battery and be fine.

OMC offset the motor shaft for a better balance for the unit, as the shaft is on the front of the motor to shed off weeds and grass and it does work very well.

Re: Trolling Motor Brand???

Thanks for the Info River Runner is it possible to hook up two batteries in a way that I could just flip the 12/24 volt switch on the foot control and have either/or?

Or would I have to hook the batteries up for which one I want to use (12 or 24)?

And would you happen to know the thrust of each voltage?

Re: Trolling Motor Brand???

It's really nice.... you have your choice with the 12 / 24 switch. You can run either 12 volt or 24 volt when two 12 volt batteries are wired in a series to get 24 volts. Flipping the foot pedal switch you have either 12 volts (3 motor speeds) on the primary battery or 24 volts (3 motor speeds) on both batteries.

Disconnecting or removing the second battery, the motor will run off the primary battery or 12 volts. The motor then has just the first 3 speeds and only works with the switch set at 12 volts.

I didn't ever need to do this.... but if you run the motor long and hard on just the 12 volt, first 3 speeds and run the primary battery down, you can switch the batteries and be good to go again. I mention this because my boat only had the two batteries and a lot of things were wired to the primary battery. All the 12 volt running electric equipment, including electric start and power trim and tilt for the main outboard motor, plus a rear 12 volt electric transom trolling motor. My marine dealer had all the rigging done for me and it worked very well, even with the river current.

It is recommended that a separate battery be used for a outboard motor. But I preferred two batteries instead of three. My dealer said no problem, because of the size of the outboard motor (45 hp).

I do not know the trolling motor thrust of each voltage. For me, it wouldn't matter what it was. With charged batteries the motor has a lot of power to do the job.
