PONY, Its not that he made a mistake but his refusal to apologize.

I'm not convinced he "planned" on saying that last part. I think it was a last second, shoot from the hip statement that sounded good in his mind til it came out. Idiocy can include the speaking of a stupid or foolish utterance. Yes, the man hasn't gotten where he is by being stupid. But this speech and what it says about him is idiotic.

His defense to cheap shotting the troops is he was trying to cheap shot the President.

He meant what he said, he just thought it would have been better recieved by the audience he was speaking to.

Well, I can see that he was trying to insult my President, but his skill with the language (which he acquired through study and hard work) caused him to insult the guys and gals who are really in Iraq instead.

Frankly, JB, I agree with you. I am sure he meant it as a joke, and it was a tasteless and inappropriate joke.

There is nothing funny about our situation in Iraq.

When we have news as we have that Maliki is ordering American troops to remove the barricades around Sadr City, and leave the Sadr militia alone, that is serious and I hate having Kerry's stupid and tasteless remarks dominating the news cycles as they are.

The really sad part of this whole thing is the part where Kerry was right.
If you do not have a high school diploma, you do not have many choices left for your future and the armed forces seem to be the best choice available.

Kerry didn't lie when he said our troops were stupid, but then he was forced to apologized with a lie, which really is the truth as well, so its not really a lie, when in reality he really just misspoke in the process of telling a joke, that even if told as he intended had no humor whatsoever.

Trust me rolmops, when it comes to Kerry and the democratic power structure, the plug is in....

Hmmm... you are right about not having many choices if you don't have a diploma. But that also means you can't join the military. They require a diploma(or GED) to join.

The last time I checked, there were some pretty highly educated people in the Military(Annapolis, West Point, Air Force Acacemy, ROTC).

It is not made up of high school drop outs. Even in the enlisted ranks, there a people with some form of degree. I find it offensive that according to some, the military is for losers. They are our defenders and the best of our nation IMO.

As for Kerry's slam being directed at Bush, I believe it was supposed to be but he goofed it up. I do however remember seeing a report on NBC during the election showing that Kerry's grades were actually lower than Bush's. Using his logic, maybe that is why he ended up in Viet Nam.

I say that you should go to a recruitment center and you will find out that they will accept you even without a GED on the condition that you will get a GED within the first 2 years of your service. And they will help you get it.
