The really sad part of this whole thing is the part where Kerry was right.
If you do not have a high school diploma, you do not have many choices left for your future and the armed forces seem to be the best choice available.

Hmmm... you are right about not having many choices if you don't have a diploma. But that also means you can't join the military. They require a diploma(or GED) to join.

So what say you now?

I say that you should go to a recruitment center and you will find out that they will accept you even without a GED on the condition that you will get a GED within the first 2 years of your service. And they will help you get it.

That doesn't change the fact that it's still a requirement. If you fail your end of the contract, you get booted.

And do you have anything to back up your claim of this?

For those of you that havn't yet had the privilage of being an Infantryman in a Battalion on a war front, I will explain to you that after you have done the "Idiot Exam", those not too academically endowered don't get an option as to what they wish to do............they become Infantrymen.
Units such as Infantry, Armour, Artillery and Engineers do the fighting, and believe me, you are not there because of your brains.
However you do develop strong relationships, become extremely cunning, and very smart.

Why do some people say he mis-spoke or "didn't mean it that way"? What exactly do you think he meant? How was it a jab at Bush? I think I heard exactly what the troops in the picture heard. Kerry may not have meant to reveal himself as much as he did, but I think inside he truly believes what he let slip out. Very obvious in my opinion. Man am I glad that idiot didn't win the presidency.

IMO it was a jab at Bush because he specificaly mentioned Iraq. If he meant military personel in his statement he could have picked any number of places around the world, and any number of bases. By specificaly referencing Iraq he is playing on the fact that there are many people out there who specifically blame Bush and his administration.....I don't necessarily feel that way myself.

I can't call what he said "mis speak", it was a jab at Bush that was poor in taste and was a huge mistake. He shouldnt have said it. I think most people can see what he was trying to say, he just went about it in the worst way possible.

As a side effect of his comments he INDIRECTLY insulted the military because of the way he chose to go about attacking Bush. It would make no sense for him to attack the military, when most of the most radical Bush haters still support the troops......who he is speaking too.

Some of the disparate comments expressed here are absolutely ridiculous.

I the real world, true or false doesn't matter. It is perception that governs our actions and forms our realities.

If someone feels screwed, that is their reality.
If someone feels insulted, that is there reality.

And they react accordingly.

Kerry insulted the men and women of our military, whether he intended to or not.

Taking pot-shots at our (my) President is an expression of divisiveness, which, in this country, at this time, is not needed or appreciated.

I'm sure most of us have heard "United we stand, divided we fall".

What about that statement don't you understand.

On a personal note, I was in "Nam" before Kerry started his smear campaign. I remember being spat upon when returning through O'Hare in Chicago. I remember being called foul names.

And I remember Kerry and Fonda.

What in the hell is wrong with us that we can't remember un-American activities, or at least learn from others' experience(s).

Some of us should be ashamed of ourselves.

Excuse me Rolmops, Let me correct you. You have to have a diploma to be accepted in the Armed Forces here in the USA.

Blue Lunch, In the past and in a thread about Rushes Presciption drug case, you said something tio the effect that you or someone you know takes and or needed meds for serious pain and you could sympathize with people who suffer from cronic pain. Do you refference yourself or those folks you were refering too as druggies?...and to their face?
