I would try a 15x19 four blade if you can borrow or find a cheap one.

(friends boat is the same length and motor combo and that's what works for him)

That's, uhm. Different. Might even be unique. I'm pretty sure that did not come from the factory that way.

Here's the spec sheet for the 1995 218 Coastal. All the options are 150-250hp outboards.

Maybe having the outdrive about 2 feet behind the boat's transom is causing some of the problem here.

the 1994's had the 4.3 option, I believe the last 2 numbers of the HIN is the year.

Excellent.....thanks for the tip.

Is upgrading to stainless steel worth the extra cost?

I would try the borrow one or get a cheaper aluminum one first, just to try.
