True all outboards come out of only 3 factories in the world?

I have been told that only Bombardier, Tohatsu and Suzuki manufacture motors, every other motor comes out under their umbrella, from the same factory?<br /><br />Is this true? This has been told to me by 3 separate dealers.<br /><br />If anyone does know, do you know what the split is?<br /><br />I would wait and ask the dealer, but its Friday night at 10:30 pm in Australia right now.<br /><br />Cheers<br />Rob

Hmmm. Further proof that Dealers may give incorrect information.<br /><br />Yamaha, Honda and Mercury also build engines.<br /><br />Many brands include parts, assemblies and/or complete engines manufactured by other companies.

Yep, they build these huge factories and employ thousands of workers, just to give the appearance of building something. Then they order all their motors from Kia, and have them delivered with the appropriate decals. I am the guy that puts on the decals.<br /><br />The better question should be, "How many manufacturers actually make TC-W3 oil?"<br /><br />Oh no, I didn't say that.

Merc also has a HUGE plant in Fond du Lac Wisconsin, about a half mile long; and a plant in Navarro(sp) Japan where they make Mariners.

Yeah, I know. From what I read, it was a move precipitated by WallyWorld looking for cheaper product.<br /><br />Presto (Eau Claire) is gone.<br />Most if not all of WestBend is gone.<br />And the few that are not out of business, are or will be made in China.<br /><br />Cheap labor, no EPA.

It's no wonder some Selva engines look like Yamaha’s, as that’s what they are.<br /><br />Selva market 4-strokes in 4hp - 115hp sizes, but only make their own 5hp, 6hp & 7.5hp engines. <br /><br />All the 3.5hp - 100hp 2-strokes are made by Selva, but some have Yamaha parts such the autolube system.<br /><br />Selva has also started selling 'direct injection' 2-strokes, which it makes itself. They are only available in 40hp, 50hp & 80hp sizes at present. They also market a Yamaha supplied 150hp HPDI.<br /><br />I have also read Yamaha has bought a 10% stake in Selva.

Kinda like my central A/C. When the guy installed A/C in my house, he unboxed the compressor, takes out an envelope with 3 or 4 stickers and says "What brand do you want?" I asked "Which one is the best?" He replied "Heil" and affixed the sticker. See, it pays to watch your installer closely. I could have ended up with one of those inferior brands. <br />
