Re: Typical Liberal Response
My problem with this whole Global warming debate is that the current issue is unique in natural history. Yes, there have been temperature fluctuations throughout history. Some have been caused by meteor strikes, some have been caused by volcanic activity. These effects share the same thing, airborne debris that stays in the atmosphere for years. Other issues have been pole reversal, the moons orbit geting farther away each year, all sorts of things cause these temp changes. We can't control any of this.
Now we have all this carbon in the air, and even the most diehard skeptic of global warming should admit that the carbon is there, and it is there because we put it there.
My problem is we can't say either way what the actual outcome it going to be. Will things only slightly change? Will we be snowmobiling in Texas? No one can say. I do think it is counter productive to just put out heads in the sand and just stay the course. We should be approaching this potential problem from the angle of alternative fuel to relieve ourselves of suckling the middle-eastern teat. We know oil won't last forever, so we should be going in another direction in preperation for that. To not do that is to guarantee we will be towing our boat to the ramp with a horse in another 50 years or however long. I don't know about you but bass tournys will suck using rowboats. If we put as much energy into solving the future oil problem as we do worring about the dumb crap we do, we will be prepared, and the global warming being caused by us debate will be a non-issue.
Since it is really all about money, like most things are, the industrial entities need to start getting away from fossil fuels, make it profitable for them and attainable for us. As it stands, there is little to compell me to get rid of my paid for truck to pay a high premium for a Toyota Prius that can't tow a golf cart. We don't need a 386 hp engine in a 1/2 ton truck that gets 17 mpg. We are being brainwashed into believing that we need that. There is a small percentage of people that actually use that. The average truck owner never gets close to his max payload. We get the treehuggers to see reason, we can have fuel efficient small diesel hybrid designs in a 1/2 truck that will do just fine for what most of us use a truck for. We don't have to sacrifice utility, but we don't need to have trucks that get mpgs in the teens either.
I see the adds for the new Toyota Tundra, and I get lustful. Of course I want bigger brakes, a six speed transmission, and 386 horsepower, who wouldn't. Who cares that my moms old 70's Ford LTD when I was a kid got better fuel economy. Thats how they get you, they make tanalizing products that are not needed....
