Let's have some fun. Who has an ugly boat?

Here's my personal entry, an old 16-ft. 1973 Chrysler bass boat with a 1972 Evinrude Starflite 85 HP. It's been sitting in the field for a couple of years, patiently waiting for me to install a new floor and transom and to scrub it down with ScotchBrite pads and Comet cleanser. It'll make a decent fishin' platform one of these days.
I'm not touching it until my classic Red Fish is on the water first.

Well threedeesmax I think you've already won game, set, match :)

Mine was pretty ugly before I painted it and replaced the windshield. We affectionately called the color "band-aid".

Cool! I'm in the lead already!

Here's my other boat, but this one's not entered in this contest!

I hope you don't take this the wrong way and I really don't mean to be insulting. I saw the pictures of your other boat in the other thread and I'm sure it's a classic and everything but to me (29 yrs old) it the ugliest boat I have ever seen. However, it's so ugly it's cool. It would certainly be a conversation starter. The Edsel of boats. :)

You're right, it's ugly to some people, which I think is a generation-gap thing - I'm twenty years older than you are. I like boats and cars that were manufactured around the year I was born, because to me these late 1950s-early 1960s craft are classics - they came out about the same time I did.
And the Red Fish has all of the things that reflect that era, with huge tail fins, spotlights, horns, a navigation light that is designed like the hood ornament of a late-1950s Chevy, a steering wheel that would look at home in a 1956 Studebaker. If "Pimp My Ride" had been around in 1961, this boat could have been one of their finished products. I'll never "update" it with modern parts or modern styling, because that would ruin my purpose for owning it.
Even if they think it's ugly, people still say it's a cool boat.
It draws attention faster than a basket of puppies.
And it doesn't look like all those other boats out there. Different can be a good thing.
I just wish I could restore myself too. I'm sure my body's stringers are soggy, and my transom is sagging. I'm worried about my water pump too.

Well, I am 14, and love the classics. But, then again, I am in no way normal.:D As soon as I get my fishing rig finished, I am looking at other classics. I found a 1966 alumicraft covered bow, but by the time we can afford it it will be gone. The restoration bug has bitten, as has the classic boat bug. I just wish the income bug would bite.:D

Bassboy1, keep an eye out for old classic boats in fields, back yards, and in the weeds and bushes. Chances are you might find an old boat that somebody will just GIVE you if you ask. Or you might find a $100 boat of your dreams, if you're willing to work on it!

OK, so my boats are in a tie-breaker for first and second place. Still the leadah and current champeeen.

Who else has an ugly boat for this contest?

I know you're out there.

You have a boat that is so ugly that you hide it in the garage, and only take it to the lake at night. At least your navigation lights work.

You carry liablilty and accident insurance on your boat, because it's so ugly that people are apt to have a heart attack when they see it.

Your boat is so ugly that your next-door neighbor thinks it's a compost heap.

That is the easy part. The hard part is funding the restoration. The Lund put a huge dent in our checkbook, and we aren't even done.
Chances are, the motor doesn't run like a champ, and that is if it even has one. And, lots of time, most of the original hardware is missing or rusted solid, so a lot has to be replaced.

BTW, here is mine. Course, these pics were taken a few years before we got it. When we got it, it had been basically in a forest and had sap and pollen and sticks and everything else in it.

Right now it is on a brand new homeade trailer, and has a brand new deck in and has a 1971 50 horse johnson that is purty beat up. And the windshield is held on with clamps to measure for console. Aside from that, it is purty ugly, but on the uprising.

Bassboy1, you should be proud of your boat and the work you've put into it. It's a cool multipurpose boat; ski, fish, rip around the lake.

Just a thought; if you find a classic that's not in terrible shape, you could swap your existing outboard motor back and forth from one boat to the other. The same goes for your fuel tanks and battery. Where there's a will, there's a way! I love to see kids your age get into boating, especially classic boats. And the 'kid' part isn't a put-down; I wish I were your age again! Except for that pesky puberty part...that was quite an adventure. Now I'm an old man who will be fifty years old in December.

My old Broze Brothers is pretty ugly. And if that ain't ugly enough I may just have to go take a pic of my glassmaster.
