Hey Wayne, Can you tell me the dia. & pitch of your prop?Except for the Vee drive my 69 Luhrs & your Ulrichson are identical boats.Bert still has me thinking about that diesel swap for mine , I also have the 318 set up minus the Vee part. You guys have been an inspiration to me & keep up the great work. thanks Springer.

It's got a 17X15 wheel with a 1.5 reduction V drive, couldn't give you any performance #s as I have never run the boat, the PO claims 25 mph cruise. I was thinking BS as the advertised empty weight was 5K. Hopefully we will see next spring if I'm able to get the IRS off my back.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

Thanks Wayne, got another question if you got a minute.I finally got my luhrs delivered and set-up in my yard , as the demolition continues and I can see what I have, I noticed that the transom has no wood in it.No, I havn't been drinking , but there is no sign that there ever was! I've never seen this but I figured maybe Luhrs,Ulrichsen never built them that way? If you pull this up shoot me a reply cause I'm dying to know what the scoop is.(or maybe all those GreatfulDead concerts are catching up with me)!!!!

Springer: I'm sure Wayne will answer also, but I'll just jump in to say the transom on my Luhrs is 100% fiberglass. Not a speck of wood in it! Every time I read about somebody on here replacing their rotted transom I'm so thankful mine is glass.

Hey Burt, started to ask on your thread, but was a little leary cause i asked you about re-gear or re-proping yours & it looked like we, you, me, started a big cuss & fuss on that one.I knew that you have a Luhrs & wayne has a 25' Ulrichsen which is same as mine but mine is direct drive, so its Merry Christmas to me,I did good while having no clue that I only have to do the stringers and build accordingly.Dang, nice guys do win once in a while !!! Still thinking Diesel on mine.(your fault!) LOL :D

I see that Burt answered this one. There is no wood in the transom. Hope to bring the crane truck home this weekend and pull the powertrain. Once I resolve my money issues I'll be back on this project full steam. The supplies for the deck are going to cost a couple of sheckles.

Hey Wayne, How are you going to do your deck? Going to "coat" both sides w/CSM & resin,or,1 side on top,or,gelcoat? I'm trying to think of a way for mine to self bail, with out it all running down to the bilge.Just the aft deck, mine is almost 10' from transom to cabin deck bulkhead, or where i'm doing somthing similar to your Alaskan bulkheads,(just not all the way to the roof)My floor plan is just like the Luhrs pamplats you posted earlier in this post.By the way thanks for your help so far,its been invaluable.

Ahhhhhhhhh the deck, the PO had just framed up some PT 2x4's and slapped down some PT 1/2" with vented ski locker hatches. Everything drained to the bilge. Pulled all that out and lowered it about 1 1/2 inches. Everything will be covered with glass. The deck itself will be covered with glass both sides and tabbed to the hull I plan on opening up the original drain holes to about 6" x 2", the step and the engine hatch ledge will drain to a shower drain setup.

That sounds good Wayne, as far as i can tell mine just runs over the edges on starboard & port & into the cabin floor to the bilge.Gotta re-work that path cause I want a dry bilge (well REASONABLY DRY)What do you think about slots on both sides and aft through transom?Heck they would be 2 1/2 to 3' above water line.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

Wayne: Can I hang out in your thread for awhile? People are getting all nasty over torque/HP in my thread.

Springer: My boat sits with the deck slanted slightly to the stern (I guess by design), so it has (4) 1" dia. drains near the transom that drain through short hoses out plastic thru-hulls in the transom, maybe 8-10" above the waterline. They flow plenty of water. I never got around to fixing my hatch lip drains which explains why I had water in the bilge all summer.

I was thinking we could form a Luhrs/Ulrichsen splinter group within iboats, but 3 guys isn't too impressive. The Starcraft Mafia probably has 4000 members!

I've been following your thread and can't wait to see what you come up with for a repower. I don't think that anyone thought you would have a speed demon with that diesel in there. I went out with an old friend on his Mainship over the summer. 15 Kts seemed like we were traveling backwards.

Springer

My original deck drains were 2 1" holes without scuppers. I'm going to up the size of them and may add rubber flaps on the outside, just in case.

I'll see if my machine shop guy can come up with some nice plaques for our rather small club :D

Hey Bert, Hey Wayne, If we form a group on iboats,we gotta come up with a name don't we? LOL ! How about this: "THE WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN WOOD IN OUR TRANSOM GANG" I couldn't help myself !!! I'm sure to catch flack for that one !!! I need to start my own thread for my little project , I am very short on computer skills so I think I'll hit Wood & see if he can remote in & show me a few things I need to know.

Very cool project. I'd love a bigger boat that I can overnight on.

Just read through your thread great job! How did you go about removing the aft deck? It looks like your just constructing a whole new deck.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

It was easy to take the aft deck out as the PO had just framed up some PT 2X4's and covered it with 1/2" PT ply. Originally the deck was constructed similar to yours I think they build it and install it and then put the cap on. Splitting my boat would be a major undertaking, the cap doesn't slip over the hull, it's butted and glassed and the seam is covered with a piece of stainless it looks like they put another layer of glass over the nuts on the inside.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

Finally got to do a little on the boat

The bilge pump was just sitting in the bilge and not mounted, so I made a little mounting plate and glassed it in to make a mount. Finally found the garboard drain, it was under the pump. That piece of cloth is my bilge wick it wickes out the last 1/2 inch of water for a dry bilge on the hard.

SANY2502.jpg

Cleaned up the wiring and installed a new float switch

SANY2505.jpg

Mounted and labled a 4 circuit junction block up out of the bilge.

SANY2497.jpg

Wired it up and cross that one off the list

Gonna take that thru hull out and patch the hole, reseal the garboard plug and replace the 3/4 thru hull with a sea **** for the deck and anchor wash down.

Very clean work as usual! I wish I had been better about labeling the wires on mine. I color coded the, yellow for lights, etc, but the labels sure are nice when you are trouble shooting.

Super-nice wiring work there Wayne! Those details will pay off when you get her in the water, as everything will be reliable and you won't have to worry about it. I want to re-do my bilge pump wiring also over the winter.

Keep up the great work!
