Re: Unintentional stringer job

Quick update on why I haven't finished this off yet: I took it out on the lake :)

We had it out on Lake Minnetonka this weekend... ran the long block I installed last year up to WOT a couple times, cruised around, idled. The repairs from both last year and this one held, my doghouse worked ok (it was just set in place, needs to be finished) and the boat had no interior sides, but it was still a lot of fun :)

I got it up to about 40 mph, which is not too bad since I think it's underpropped. No creaking, cracking, or problems of any kind related to the stringer work I did, the hatches now covering the deck storage, or anything.

Even the bellows service I did worked out... no more leaking transom, it stayed as dry as when I put it in the water, nothing to drain later.

So, I'm soon to finish the interior, then the doghouse, then an A-frame crane for running my side scan, then a hard top... plus I need new axles for the trailer, the ones I have only give me 3" ground clearance.

Updates will be spotty for a while, since it's dive season and I'll be busy most weekends and evenings, but I'll be on the board all summer.

Cheers,
Erik

Boy do I look forward to that day on my boat! Glad to see she passed the sea trials. I may have to rethink the way I go about my boat before I get ahead of myself. I may just have to get the transom, stringers and floor in and then take it out for a cruise before I go to the trouble of painting it it only to have something go awry.

Thanks... I should really post an update :)

I've been using the boat all summer, no problems at all except for a tiny leak near the Y-pipe.. I'll probably have to replace that O-ring.

I've gotten some carpet in, but the interior is still not done. I did get the doghouse done and in, front hatch redone, teak rails up front redone, antenna and flagpole mounted, swim platform on, cushion for the back cabinet made (easier on knees than climbing over wood when swimming) and I rewired the trailer brakes (again) and put better axles on the trailer.

I'm still not sure I'll pull the engine this fall... I may just use her a couple more times, winterize, and put her away. I have this other project I'm starting relatively soon, and I'm itching to get going :)
