Re: Unsinkable Ranger Boats

I had a boat several years ago called a Bonwitco *With*, it was Norwegian designed and featured a fibreglass double hull with injected foam allegedly making it unsinkable.

Went to the London boat show about a year after I bought the boat and the company had a display set up with one of their boats cut in half and both halves floating in a tank, perfectly

By the way, they called the display.............the Half Wit :D

Boston Whaler is the one they cut into pieces, on the water, and it still floats.

Well, that and Carolina Skiff.

Ranger boats are just good bass boats, but I wouldn't call them unsinkable. I would, however, call Whalers/Carolina Skiffs unsinkable.

Wasn't there a story about the Marines trying to find out how many rounds it would take to sink a Boston Whaler (small arms fire obviously) and they gave up in the end? :D

Yea, they gave up, after all the passengers were dead!

Re: Unsinkable Ranger Boats

Found this on a Skeeter, thought it was interesting.
http://www.skeeterboats.com/videos/floatation.html

I also watched the video on the Whaler.
It is kinda deceiving if you watch it in that the cut part/s never touch water.
The nose piece with the guy in it tilts away from the cut and the other part with the big engine on it tilts away from the cut also.
Then when he gives it throttle the cut part never touches water.
Now I am confused.:confused::confused:

I used to work for a Ranger dealer and recall the video. Tis true unless you weight it down. Anything wll sink with enough dead weight. Whaler's video showed the boat still operable, although at slow speed.

Re: Unsinkable Ranger Boats

You can take almost any boat out there and show it not sinking in the same manner that BW advertises their boats. And as already stated, put enough weight in anything and it will go down!

Did you see the house in Texas that was "unsinkable" during the recent flooding? The owner but styrofoam blocks under it and disconnected it from the foundation (modular home), and then secured it to trees around it. It floated also.

Back on topic, I would rather not test my boat for sinking, but rather keep it in one piece, with the plug in, and no holes in the hull, and not cut it in half - seems more fun that way! :)
