I can't remember if mine fell out or not.Just look up into the middle leg and see the relationship of where the water tube goes and that should tell you which way the bend goes.It should just kind of stick up into a plastic grommet looking thing similar to the one on top of the water pump.Just take your time .if the tube will stay in place then just gently guide it into the top of the water pump.I know my water tube was really loose but it would stay in the powerhead.you will have an extremly hard time trying to guide it from the water pump, much easier to guide it into the water pump instead.

all assembled! :) just need to figure out how to adjust the shift linkage (1230am = I am loosing it!) = time for sleepy sleep, considering I have to be up @ 530am for worky! :(
Thanks to all for help, info, advice, encouragement and git'er done attitude :) Pray it runs now!
Any final tips on how to adjust shift linkage under the motor leg cover?

the way i did mine i left the rod coupling apart ,Made a ref mark on lower section of shift rod, pushed down to get LU into gear made a ref mark on motor leg then pulled up on shift rod and made another ref mark .thread rod coup on shifter shaft then shift Lu into FWD and see if you can make marks line uo by adjusting coupling. Then do the same for rev gear. You might have to split the difference as a guess if you cant make both sets of ref marks line up with the preference going to the FWD gear. The important thing is to make sure that the gears are fully engaged as it would be very bad if they are not.

Well, took her out to the river this weekend and VIOLA she ran! Went for about a 45min ride up and down the river and all is good... almost :)

One concern is, when the gears engage, it is a solid shift, but it is supposed to sound as if they are "banging" into forward or reverse when engaging?

Other than that, 2 minor issues, but a new thread for that:
1) idles rough...almost on the verge of dying
2) on WOT, good for about 5 sec, then starts to hesitate as if not getting enough fuel, but doesn't stall out

The carb and fuel pump both got rebuild kits so those are both fresh and new w/ new spark plugs... one thing comes to mind is that I have NOT checked the fuel delivery hose or the primer bulb...

All in all, THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this thread! hope I can be of help/assistance to someone down the road :)

I could get mine to idle smooth for about 30 seconds then motor would die.i was told a rough idle was normal for this particular outboard. You might reduce the idle speed some so it isn't running as fast. That will help with the clunk. Also do you have your fuel tank vent open? That could causesome of the problems you are reporting.

Yup, vent open... checked it a couple of times during the run. Also, the bulb stayed firm as I checked that several times as well during the full throttle tries.

I need help.I have an ignition problem with my 69 chrysler 55 hp model 5591. it has two coils, one for each cylinder right. One of them burnt up and all i can find that looks close is a tune up kit that includes two condensers. are the condensers and the coil the same thing??? Thanks for any help. If they are not the same thing where can I find a new coil?

This is what I found. Sierra Part #18-5010

Do the coils have the spark plug wire permanently attached or does it separate. Good luck with the coils. You might try the chrysler crew but those coils are hard to find. The ones that are detachable from the spark plug wire might still be around.
