Re: Update

Every time I clicked quick reply it quoted and for some reason just didn't want to cooperate.

Anyway, we got the kids moved to their new house and it has been raining around here it seems like forever. I finally got the other boat out yesterday to run some fuel out because I have it up for sale. After sitting for almost a year, it fired right off and ran like a champ. It is hard to sell a good one. But, it is even harder to sit and watch it rot.

Maybe, we will have time to get the 19 out an play alittle this weekend. I sure hope so.

i hope ya do too. the summers moving right along, fall will be here too soon. + you have an excuse to go use the nineteen as you know the ramifications of no use..

Re: Update

We are looking at a few days on Lake Hamilton at the end of the month. My wife found out there has been a cancellation and there will be a slip available.

Finally got around to taking a pic this weekend with the newly painted top. My wife is the stylish beauty standing beside it.

Re: Update

I've been running around for awhile and haven't checked in lately. The boat is actually like Hershey bar brown on the bottom and cream on top. We have been having a great time and this past weekend I guess the boat caught an allergy to the water and refused to crank whenever I put her in the water.

It absolutely drove me nuts. Anyway, I'll be doing some more work to resolve that problem and thought I would drop in some shots from the summer if I hadn't put them in already.

Yes, that is me looking all fat and bald with my little fish. I woke up and found him on my line. Apparently, I had drifted off for a few minutes there.

Re: Update

That is lake Ouachita. It is about 2-3hrs away and we spend alot of time in Hot Springs so it is convenient for us.

http://www.lakeouachita.org/

Explain winterizing to me. What all did you do? I have heard to everything from drop the outdrive in a washtub with antifreeze and run it to disassemble and grease the entire outdrive and half of the engine before fogging it and then shrinkwrap.

I want something simple so if I get a pretty day in January and want to run it out I can.

hum, you opened a can of worms with that question db..... ;)

my winterization may be different than what you want to do because of location.... your down south...

anyways... i use the oem service manual as my main guide. i also use the winterization sticky in the adults only forum for a guide... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=178695,

one thing i will say is that after i'm done. i'm pretty much ready to hit the water next season short of i store my drive inside the house over the winter...

i certainly don't fill with antifreeze via a bucket. i drain my block, manifold and riser to be sure there's no water in the system at all. i double check it. i then fill w/antifreeze via the t-stat which i remove and replace when done filling with antifreeze. the manifold gets directly filled too via the main water connection on the ft. of my L6 manifold...

here's my winterization list...

hope ya can make sense of that. in my word program it's a table...

my boat sits outside. i use a aftermarket cover that fits. for extra protection, i use a second cover that's the same as the one underneath, but the top one has a rip in it so is not total protection...

hope that helps...

oh, it took me about a month of off and on working on it this fall to put her to sleep and i store her bow high w/o a boat drain plug...

Re: Update

great pics again db....

love your flying dog.... :D what a great pic...

so looks like you have some cracks on your hardtop. me too. mine are especially at the inside corners. i wonder if we should be doing something about them? though i don't know what it'd be. i know my top racks back and forth while underway. worse if the top is separated from the windshield.. so far, i just try and not worry about the cracks on mine.. they are similar to yours where you have the pic of the starboard side hand rail on the hardtop. though mine are predominantly on the inside corner. i took a pencil and marked the end of the cracks on mine mid summer. they didn't seem to get any worse over the course of the season.. any ideas? are you concerned? or just gonna use it... use it is where i think i'm at.

Re: Update

I'm just going to let it fly for now and keep my eyes open for a replacement in better condition. I repainted the topside for the time being and would rather find one original in good condition the right color than go through all the repair work needed on this one.

I picked it up in Nashville off a tip one of you guys gave me here.

Re: Update

To find an aristocraft without cracks on the inside corner would be quite a feat.... they are just stress cracks in the gel coat right there, from the side to side shifting. if you try and repair them, they will probably come back in a season. Just consider them birth marks.... :)
Your winterizing list is much longer then mine....
here is mine
1.Fill 5 gallon bucket with water/antifreeze solution, connect bucket to boat with bunny ears, crank boat and suck up all the solution.
2. put in building.

I think I need Ziggy to start doing mine for me!!

Now if yours stays outside in the conditions I recommend Ziggy's way....
Hope all is well with everyone, here is a picture from a week or so ago of us on Lake Lanier.
The founder of Aristocraft is in the blue boat, can almost see him through the hardtop window. Doing well at 93!

Re: Update

That had to have been too much fun! I love the landau tops. Especially the one with the luggage rack on it.

My cracks are a bit more than just cosmetic. I think it was damaged while the previous owner was transporting it. The donor boat was bought as a parts boat by the guy I got the top from and he said it had been used in Florida and made several trips to the Bahamas doing dive work. It looked as though they had ridden on top of it. When I refit my top to the boat I had to use a strap to pull it together enough to match the tracks. It was at least 4 or 5 inches too wide and will likely never slide with that much tension on it.

I would like to find a landau like the one on the middle boat because I think the back half would match my hull color.

Re: Update

good to hear from ya Scott. that's good to know that the cracks on the inside corners are normal and only cosmetic. that does make me feel better. I've worried that they may progress or lead to the breaking of the top. which i certainly don't want to happen of course.
It looked as though they had ridden on top of it
db, don't know if yer supposed to be able to do that or not. i do know that when i talked to the po about my boat prior to buying it. he told me his two teenage daughters used to sunbathe on top of mine. myself, i've not layed on it, but i have sat on the edge of it with my feet on the gunnel. nice birds eye view from there... buddy a mine went to Hawaii last year and said he saw a yellow nineteen (only one i've ever heard about other than the one from here, but it's painted and not oem. i like the yellow he painted his) down there that had to chairs moutned to the top.. now that's really giving it the test i'd think...

Now if yours stays outside in the conditions
yep, my poor boat sits outside in the nebraska winters. a terrible thing to do to one of Claude's boats, but i've no shelter for it... sure wish i did..

wow Scott. three nineteens in a row. sweet. that's a great pic. love to see the lake reflecting off the nineteen hull. mine does that too... ;) looks sweet. i can see why Claude is in the blue one. that's my favorite one too. love that AristoCraft blue... so far, i think it's my favorite color. sure is cool the way AristoCrafts came in variable colors. something the new manufactures should consider. sure makes ea. one unique. actually, other mfg's should consider a lot of Claude's ideas. he had many great ideas. i envy him in his innovation and entrepreneurship.

personally, i like the solid colored tops db. but to ea. his own, it's just a preferance. it's just another thing too cool about AristoCrafts. the minor changes that occurred over the years. so what years are the three Scott? What engines? a '79 (i think) showed up in lincoln last summer. it looks like the brown one in the middle. his has the omc drive on it. don't know what size engine he got though. so now, i'm not the only nineteen owner in my area.

fwiw. i've seen three nineteens in my area now. a 74 red one, my 75 lime green and the brown w/landau top 79 now. the red '74 is for sale on lincoln craigslist right now, been there for a few days now.. i saw it on the lake 2 years ago, he had it all decked out for fishing......

have a great day folks... may the winter be short for all of us..

Re: Update

Yes the tops and colors are all personal, I have had people switch from one to the other, and color changes for no reason other then they like it better, and at the end of the day, they are the ones that need to be happy with it!

The blue one is a 78' has the wood dash, with the flat top motor box and first year as the top option. the brown and red are both late 79's. the brown one is ALL original and in immaculate shape. That is Bills boat, it has the merc. 470 in it. The Red one is mine, and has a omc 120. it is mostly original except for the carpet, which had run its course when i got it unfortunately. The was one more 77 model red nineteen with us not in that picture. it was a great day on the lake indeed.

please clarifiy. my 75 has wood grain contact paper on it. is that what ya mean?
with the flat top motor box
more info please... ;) i take it this is not a flat top...

my '75 engine cover (dog house)

the brown one is ALL original and in immaculate shape. That is Bills boat, it has the merc. 470 in it.
. how does he like the 470? i bet that moves her right along. aren't they rated @ 170hp. my Nineteen is uscg approved to 165hp. i've always wondered if the 470 versions were rated at a higher hp rating by the uscg.

The Red one is mine, and has a omc 120
how do you like that compared to the mercruisers? i read that Claude had a relationship with Carl? wondering if the omc powers were more rare? the brown one that showed up in lincoln area is omc powered i'm pretty sure...

it is mostly original except for the carpet, which had run its course when i got it unfortunately.
i still hear that... i'm still looking for anything close for replacement of mine. it's not so good, just flat and a few cig. burn holes due to my own negligence. i fig. oh well, i do use my boat... if ya use it, yer gonna have a mishap or two... :(

it was a great day on the lake indeed.
any day on the lake is a great day indeed when yer in a Nineteen.... yours was just extra special.....

Re: Update

Hey Ziggy, I will start with your last statement about the carpet. Just last week I was on the phone with out upholstery guy, and he said that he got a new book of outdoor carpets in and one was bright green. Not to get your hopes up because most of the time they dont match, but I will be there next week and I will be checking into it....

The wood dash Is what I meant by the contact paper on the dash. The late 79's had a fiberglass dash.

The flat top box was a different motor box design that came out in mid 78,

Yes The 470 moves the boat very nice, tons of power, and when they came out with the 470 boat was re-rated for 170 HP.

AS per the OMC MERC debate, they both have they ups and downs. I have owned and still do both, and are very happy with both. with proper maintenance, both will give you worry free use. MY current nineteen with the OMC is great. It has yet to give me a problem, and I am enjoying it.

You are right, the vast majority of them (nineteens) were built with mercury. Claude and Carl had known each other for so long that doing business with each other was natural. I still have so many videos and photos from the 50's of mercury photo shoots using Aristocrafts, and vice-versa, they were just a good pair.
