Congrats! That is one AWESOME boat. Well done. Can't wait to see it in the water and am looking forward to hearing all about the maiden voyage. News flash......marine stores report there is a "one man run" buying up fender inventory.............good luck and enjoy.

Ironically, that Allison is a lake boat in the spirit of Checkmate's roots.

But Allison is a very nice boat. For my waters, to cruise long and hard at a high speed, I wanted a true V with good deadrise.

You also wanted an open bow. Allison does not make one.

When Kenny from Velocity delivered my brothers 410 supercrusier you should have seen him power sliding a dually around the parking lot at the New Smyrna ramp boat in tow. My face must have looked real funny at that moment!

After he backed down the ramp, he hoped out talked for a moment, then jumped in the boat and pulled it over to the side dock so we could load my brother in his wheel chair on the boat.

That's when I figured out why he was goofing off like that- It's a boat! That's it just a boat! Might be a real nice one, might have cost a lot of money but, it's still just a boat. Enjoy it, don't stress over!

I know it's not that easy with something as nice as your new Checkmate but you'll get over the stress.

Not the you should scratch it but I've scratched new guitars just so I don't have to stress about it getting scratched.

Fuel tank is 64 gallons +/- which is about 27% smaller than the Scarab (502 ci) I've been running around in. But, the Checkmate is also about 35-40% lighter. I've seen some numbers about fuel consumption and it'll be considerably better than I am used to. Ergo: I'll just run 'er even more and spend the same am't of insane money on fuel! :D

I've got some picture perfect ramps to launch from and I really will enjoy it! Still, if anyone can get a bulk discount on bubble wrap, let me know! ;)

From what I'm reading they're sending you the pics, is that right? I was wondering if you were actually able to go there in person. I'm sure you're not driving to Ohio every week or so just to take pics....or are you?:D

I think it's great that Checkmate builds a rapport with their customers at this level. When the farm ordered a new combine the boss and his son went to Moline and watched the combine being built. You don't find that level of service in the customer/mfgr/retailer relationship often. Sounds like you made a well informed decision!

The owner, Doug Smith, has responded to emails in less than 15 minutes, along with the marketing guys that takes the pics and have coordinated parts/etc (Mike and Kip Combs).

If I wanted to take trip there, they'd accommodate me.

They pulled a mold for someone who wanted a 2005 model and built it new/custom in 2011, just because the guy wanted the older style bow rider. Now that is pretty cool.

So have you explained to the wife that you NEED a matching tow rig? Justification for a new tow vehicle and of course it has to have a matching paint scheme ;)

Re: NEW PICS THURSDAY, 1/12/2012. Checkmate factory pics of my boat under constructi

Explain?

Wife: "Phil, we need a cool boat. Go buy a cool boat" = How I wound up with a Scarab.

Wife: "Phil, I like bow riders. The Scarab is too small. The kids and I want to sit up front. We need a cool bowrider. I want something new this time" = How I wound up looking at new boats

Wife: "I like your Dakota, but it's getting kind of old. Go get a new truck. Something big enough for a boat and all of us." = Okay, so I have a new Dodge Ram Quad Cab, Hemi, etc. Metallic Silver. I think that'll match up pretty good with the silver flake on the boat. :D

Okay, she's not perfect. She told me that she really doesn't like red trucks (and I don't like black).

Re: NEW PICS THURSDAY, 1/12/2012. Checkmate factory pics of my boat under constructi

I've received a number of PM/messages about the construction process at Checkmate. About the only question I could not answer was about the transom material, although the transom on the 2400 series is rated at "unlimited horsepower" and Checkmate has been hanging the biggest outboards on their transoms since their hey-days. They tend to beef it up.

I don't debate boat construction; rather, I understand the pros/cons of different types and prefer old-school done darn fine instead of new school done darn wrong.

So, here is a link that describes some of the process:

http://www.checkmatepowerboats.net/manufacturing.html

Again, Checkmates have been ubiquitous in my area for my whole life, and the ones that are cared for are still high-performance eye candy with a loyal following.
