Re: Upgrading motors

Here's the real problem with that. If you take on a boat altering project (like described) you become a "boat builder" and the letigation that goes with it.

If you rebuilt a wrecked truck instead of opting for a body shop, and at the same time decided to swap out the I-6 engine (that came in the truck) with a V-8 *that was an option when the truck was built), does that now make you a truck builder, with all of the liability and litigation that goes with it? No. Same would apply to boats. However, full disclosure is supposed to be revealed at any sale, boat or auto... Does it always happen, we know it does not. Does that transfer liability and open up for litigation should a problem arise due to YOUR WORK!. I am not an attorney, but like was said, anyone can sue you at anytime for anything...

I have a 140h now so 190h is still 50h more but its no 260h like I want. If I cant find a donor boat I wont even bother with the project it is sounding like it would be wise thing to do.
The 470 is not very powerful. According to this link, its only about as powerful as a modern 3.0 130hp engine. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/mercury_mercruiser_3-7.htm I'm sure the 470 makes more power than your old 140 but, its NOT the engine you want.
The 470 is only worth looking into if thats what was previously in the boat. Search this site on info on the 470. Most people will tell you to stay away from them.

Re: Upgrading motors

I found a 260h for sale for 1800 and 750 to install. Is 2550 a reasonable price for the motor out drive and everything to make it run, and installed?
