Hey guys, I am buttoning up my lower unit and I am stuck on something. I have the factory manual in PDF, as well as the seloc in print. I replaced the short yoke and and putting new seals etc in. I am putting the upper driveshaft back together and I am stuck on something. I had originally thought I was going to have do the rolling torque on this, but my set up does have the small spacer in it. Am I reading this correct that WITH the small spacer you torque the nut to 70-80 ft lb and you're done, but if you DO NOT have the small spacer this is when you do the rolling torque with a beam torque wrench reading in lbs? Thanks guys.

from the rest of the story, i'm gonna assume your working on your upper, hopefully a mercrusier and likely a mc-1 or maye 1r. and on the double brg. set that that is the driven gear u joint yoke that the question is about. if that's not what your talking about, my comment is null and void.

yep, that's it. using a new nut and washer. they are one time use parts.
but if you DO NOT have the small spacer this is when you do the rolling torque with a beam torque wrench reading in lbs?
yep, but i think you'd probably use a dial indicator type in. lb torque wrench.

fwiw, get your specs. from the mercruiser s/m. it will have the facts in it. assuming ya got the one that is applicable to your drive.
