I don't think the two are related but wanted to see if anyone else had any experience with this. '98 Johnson 115 ho fuel injected motor was running a little rough, (always used ethanol free gas and blue sta-bil) so I added 1 can (16oz seafoam) in with 20 gal gas and motor was running better, after burning thru 1/4 tank, engine light came on, then engine shut off and would turn over but not crank (I could also smell something before engine shut off). I'm sure it could be alot of things but wanted to see if anyone thought the seafoam had anything to do with it since this is the only thing I did differently. Thanks

I seriously doubt the ratio of 20 gal to 16oz of seafoum had any bearing. you said it turns over but doesn't crank, to me that sounds like a dead battery, could have overheated and burned up, does the paint on the cylinder heads look burnt? The smell of an overheated burning up motor is unique.

Sorry but I have to ask. You did put 2 cycle oil in the gas with the sea foam and not just the sea foam didn't you?

Good point and well worth asking.

Didn't really smell like overheated motor

oil is seperate (injected)

power pack?

was thinking of ordering omc diagnostic software ($60), any opinions on this?

It shut off, started once, ran @ 5 min. then shut off and would not start.

Also, was going to clean (not replace) spark plugs just to make sure even though they don't look too bad, can I use wd40 and a wire brush on plugs?

Do a basic health check of your motor.
Compression
Spark
Fuel delivery
Plug condition

Go from there.

You COULD HAVE WATER IN YOUR GAS. Check your fuel filter.

Spot-on advice! I also don't think the seafoam had anything to do with your problem. I'd want to find out what the check engine light meant. I'm wondering if since it is fuel injected, the computer would store the code for the check engine light and give you a clue what's wrong.
