Does anyone see a problem using car fuel hose for the to tank fill spout and venting? I have the coastguard stuff for the fuel lines. Just easier to get and it really doesn't gas in it much so I thought it would be ok.

Yup. It's a bit annoying because it whistles while youre fueling, but when it stops whistling, the tank is full, and you haven't had an overflow - YET. It really works! And everybody I tell about it says "Dang, how did I live without THAT?"

And no, I'm not a salesman for the product, or affiliated with the company in any way, other than being a satisfied customer!

To your comment "It doesn't get much fuel in it..." It gets every drop of fuel through it your carburetor gets through it.

Only use coast guard approved fuel lines no matter where you use them or how long they are. They are specially designed and certified for a reason. For the few extra cents difference do you really want to risk this?:

Yes, the fuel whistle works. The downside of it (I installed one on a previous boat) is directly related to how big your tank is. Listening to that thing the whole time you're pumping 90 gallons is irritating as hell. It's loud.

Depending on what sort of boat you have, you would want to avoid using any components or materials that were subject to regulations and not approved for marine use. I say this because when you go to sell the boat, and if it gets surveyed, you may be dealing with it then in the context of a potential sale. Things might go badly for the sake of a few $$$$ in past years.

I understand how such a device works with the incoming fuel pushing air out the whistle vent line. But it would seem that as you drive on the water and the fuel gets splashed around in the tank that it would create air flow through that whistle as well... That cound be a problem...

You can cover the cracks in your tail lights with red tape too. Its wont pass inspection but it will get the job done. As long as its a fuel rated hose it will work its just not the right way to do it. Its your personal choice. I choose to use the correct approved parts on my boat.

Nope, not a peep while doing anything other than fueling.

I am buying fuel line tonight on my way home from work. I did not know there was a difference in marine fuel line from auto fuel line.

the whistle would drive me crazy too. With the 2 boats that I have owned, the tanks have been 94 and 160 gallons respectively. So, I don't ever have to worry about over filling them . . . the 'whistle' in my wallet goes off long before the tank is ever filled. :D

That whistle is THE most annoying creation man has even come up with (except the beeping OSHA required back-up device. Made the mistake of installing them on each of my 100 gallon tanks. They were loud enough to wake up the whole harbor. Wife response: them o me. I tried to exercise the option but the whistles went.

Marine gasoline hose is less permeable by gasoline vapors. Auto hose remains exposed to the air from under the vehicle and therefore less concern.

Re: Using Car fuel hose in boat

The biggest difference between automotive and “marine” hose is that marine hose is fire resistant. A marine hose will withstand an open flame in excess of 2.5 minutes. An automotive fuel will not.

Then there is the permeability. “Marine hose meets
Class 1 permeation requirements with gasoline and gasoline/ethanol blend. Automotive fuel does not.

Thx thats what I was wondering, Ill have to go with marine grade because of the vapors/fires, and I cant handle that whistle. I dont want a loud Whistle when filling up in the morning. Thx for all the help
