This may be a little long, but it is so sick I can barely believe someone would do this...

We arrived too late for a camping spot on Friday night and ended up spending the night in the overflow parking area. As dinner is grilling on the barbie, my buddy and I looked over the trailer discussing ways to lock the spin down latch for the hitch. Everything is in place, as it should be. The boat stays attached to the truck and me and my bride sleep on the boat. My friend parked next to me and sleeps in his Pathfinder.

The next day we attempt to launch the boats, but the water level in the reservoir is just too low and his Pathfinder gets mired down in the mile of loose sand between the end of the ramp and the where the lake now is. No problem I tell him, we'll use my truck to pull his boat back to the ramp. As I prepare to detach my boat I discover that the hitch has been loosened and just sitting on the ball AND the emergency brake cable was detached. Oh, did I mention that my friend and my wife both had dreams involving people sneaking around with flashlights?

I cannot believe that someone's idea of a joke is to tamper with a boat trailer. Imagine what could have happened if I was on the interstate on the way down from the Cascades mountain pass and the trailer became detached? The whole idea makes me sick.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

Thats why I install the ball with an air gun, and lock BOTH the pin that holds the ball mount into the class III reciever AND the lock that holds the trailer to the ball ... drill two holes in that spinner knob, run a cable thru it and lock it tightly, they wont get but maybe a quarter turn out of it - if you cant find a pin style lock, WELD sturdy eyes to it, and run the cable thru that, or chain, something the casual azzhole punk wont be able to defeat

there should be a law where if you catch someone doing that, you should be allowed to smash a baseball bat over his stinkin dipsh!t head till the bat breaks, then ram the pieces up his ***, scumbags today have no respect for anything including themselves

Sorry to hear this happened to you Juan Cool Dewd. Again it is a pain and shame a man has to spend his hard earned money for something nice, and continue to spend to protect his investments,
and make things safer for others on the road.

CastawayRay, I'm with you bud, I take extra precautions also. I lock everything down, and even remove my slip on tow mirrors when parking.
These vandels and theives have no respect today, and I fear my own reaction to catching one in the act, I am always ARMED!

Just one of GodsBeast's

Castaway,

I like your idea. It's really sad that things have come to this.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

had someone take the ball and removable part of the hitch off my truck when i was on the lake because theirs was to low and kept dragging on ramp. got back in and they were just about to put it back on my truck. they were sharply interrupted by two hics with boat oars bout to open up a couple of cans of whoop A@# on them. they eventually talked their way out of it, with the help of the lake ranger. the ranger told them he would not always be there.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

I guess I Would be ok with someone in a jam borrowing it, but maliciously tampering with intent to cause catastrophic damage ... thats not a prank, thats a CRIME, and its punishable by repeated blunt force trauma injuries about the head and shoulders, and I ALWAYS have a bat in the car (gettin old, tired of sore fists), and thanks to a yard sale, for 75 cents I have a glove and ball too, yes sir officer sir, goin to a baseball game I is, absolutely ...

Yup! Seen that sort of thing out here,(Colo),Neb,
Wyo, are suspect if you visit them from out of state. They think your trying to take over (their)
Lake. Heard of tires getting slashed, trailer wires getting cut, ect. Went to a lake in Neb over the 4th, been going there for years because my
brother-in -law lived there. Never a problem. He
retired last year and moved to Wyo. (hence Wyo
boat hull #'s) Woke up the next day and someone
had pulled the plug on the boat where we had it beached overnight.(away from any activity, Docks ect). Water up to the plugs(I.O.)took 2hrs. to pump out, and bail. Sorry to see this kind of thing happen. If I even suspected anyone tampering
with someones rig, I'd make sure the owner had all the info he needed, and let him decide next course of action.

I really want to believe in Karma when I hear how common this is. Hopefully these punks will get what's coming to them. I'm on board with CastawayRay. If only I would catch one in the act...don't think a park ranger would be there in time.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

We do a lot of charity work with our snowmobile organization here in Anchorage. A few years ago we were asked to provide medical patrol and evacuation assisstance to a very large cross country race that is held here in town. Always wanting to try to bridge the gulf between two groups that really don't like each other, several of us volunteered quickly.

On race day we got to the crosscountry trails very early and helped mark the trail, carry supplies to each of the checkpoints etc...

Most of the skiers were nice and even a few thanked us for the support. Some were verbally abusive, we ignored those. What made this a one time event for we snowmobilers was the vandalism of our trucks and trailers that we discovered after the event was over and we had hauled all of the preperation materials back to the startpoint.

Obvious ski pole tips gouges on the vehicles and the removal of every hold down pin on each trailer...Ya gotta love some people's community spirit...

kev_alaska, I hope you told the event organizers why you weren't going to help them in future events.

I just hope all this crap is really the work of Aliens and not people. I'd hate to think people are that bad.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

nobody will ever get my stuff loose! i used a 3ft cresent wrench with a 6ft cheater pipe to tighten the ball. and for the receiver, i've been trying to get the pin out for years! its rusted tight. and if i ever caught someone messing with my stuff, they'd get a devastating blow to the head with a claw hammer! "yes" claw hammer, that is my weapon of choice. cops will never ask why you have a claw hammer in the vehichle. :D
