Flyrod..You Probably remember Chelsea Naval Hospital. Only got to spend two months there but did get to experience the area in Boston called the Combat zone..It was one bad area where we all hung out..

I have the ut most respect for the Marines because they were always there when I needed them and and they for me.. They always made sure when I was on patrol with them that I was placed in the middle somewhere..They knew when the call went out Corpsman Up they knew they could on us being there no matter how bad the fire fight we were in..

:) gonefishn!!!
Knew Chelsea hospital very well at the time!!!
August of 68- Feb 12th 1969 when I recieved my medical discharge!!! It's condos now!!!

Short story!!!

My wife who was my girlfriend at the time came to visit me and stayed longer then she should have missed the last bus to the train station. Picked up by some male stranger at 9:00pm ask her why she was out so late. she told the fella that she was visiting me at Chelsea and everything else that went along with it. I personally think that saved her life. The guy gave her a ride to north station and as she got out of the car told her that she shouldn't be accepting any rides from a stranger!!!!

" Enjoy life because I feel that I've lived mine by the time I was 22 ;) ;)

Re: Veterans

just wanted to alert all veterans the VA has a new health care directive. the Melenium2000 act.

What it does is it entitles all vets to health care at outpatient clinics. it bars none.

there is a cost share of 15 per visit and all labs included. 50 for a specialist. 7 dollars per month for medicines.
this is provided that you dont qualify for free.
I know that most of us were treated very poorly or even rejected by the va in years gone by. and many of us have the means to be provided for elsewhere. but there are those of us who have outlive the health benefits we had when we retired. inflation has consumed our income to where meds are unavailable. if your a vet. you desearve and are entilled to care. this is a option.
My favorite example is the VA provides me with a new pair of glasses each year. cant tellem apart from the ones verizon provides me every other year at a 50% copay.

I have found many vets, retired who found this to be most positive, reach out to vet and tellem, tobe proud and take of the benefits afforded to them.
A BENEFIT NOT TAKEN IS A BENEFIT LOST!

Re: Veterans

wajajaja great information.

A few years ago, I was at a "Stand Down" health screening for vets. I was appauled at the lack of medical they had. It was not only disgraceful but a slap in the face to our vets after the sacrifices they made.

Since I was doing the vision screening, I was VERY surprised that eye exams and glasses weren't covered. I spoke to our legislature then and was assured that this was in the makes. I am happy its finally come to fruition. :)

Re: Veterans

wajajaja,
I went to the VA about a year ago to see what they could do for my hearing. I lost upper 10-15% while in the Army sittin under a very loud radar 24hr/day.

I was pleasantly surprised at how I was treated. Even though it took about 3 mo. to get an appointment, they were very courteous and effecient.

They tested my ears a said "yep! you need hearing aids" Problem was, they wouldn't give me any. Seems it's not in their budget to do so. I'd have to go through some lengthy claims processing ordeal. :(

Re: Veterans

Alot of changes will be going on within the VA system in the next year or so..If you are a vet whether you were wounded or not and have been honorablly discharged more benefits are in the future for you..

Someday our troops will be coming home and the new changes that will effect them will include all of us who served..

Re: Veterans

I have lost 40/60 % of my hearing, and not suppose to lift over 30 lbs. The County Service Officer that is pushing the papers has me schedule for complete VA examination, took about 90 days. I have heard about some of the changes, and a lot more to come.

Re: Veterans

Many vets are not taking advantage because of thinking that you had to be wounded or disabled during ones service..Any injury sustained while in the service can qualify as long as its service connected..

Many vets were only looking(including me) to get their walking papers and get the heck out of dodge and never considered asking for any compensation. As we have gotten older those old injuries have come back to remind us of a long time gone..

I have been out of the service now for 26 years. My wife who is a ICU Nurse at the local hospital told me to look into compensation for the injuries i sustained. I am now going through the long process to get the compensation deserved. Your disability could be as little as having your prescripions filled at a low cost to getting anywhere from ten percent or more in compensation.

Only problem with all this is that documentation is needed. Being in the medical corp i saved all my records so its been a little easier for me..But don't let that stop you. The paper trail is still there for Uncle Sam to follow..
