Apologies, I couldn’t find the proper category to address my issue but I believe this is the most relevant brand to what I have right now. If there is any other way please let me know since I am new here. Can anyone guide me from the attached photos where to find the starter!! If I am not mistaken, the flying wheel is missing and the solenoid as well. Any idea where to find the parts. Many thanks for any help. Jeff

You can remove that ring.----Install a ring with starter teeth.----I have done such a thing.-----Need to find a toothed ring , starter and bracket ( 28 HP to 33 HP Johnson / Evinrude ) from the 1960's only.---Starter solenoid from any Johnson / Evinruse from mid sixties to end of production.-----Or any outboard motor including Japanese motors.-----Possibly a choke solenoid equipped carburetor.-----Your location ?

Go to the parts list at https://richardlpaquette.ca/25D19VPartsCatalogue.PDF to see what the parts look like.

Another site you need to discover is the Antique Outboard Motors Club, www.aomci.org The Ask A Member forum and the Classifieds ads pages will be a big help.

Yes, the parts are common across a wide range of Johnson, Evenrude and Gale motors. (You have a Gale motor)

There is a Viking Special Interest Group within the outboard club . Richard Paquette, who posted the above parts list is the Viking Group leader. Consider joining the club. The quarterly Antique Outboarder magazine alone is worth more than the dues.

No doubt you are right, there is a reddish color at the jacket of the upper cylinder. So the bypass part is the one in attached photo below?

That is the exhaust cover. Intake bypass covers are on the other side.

As for that flywheel, the ring/gear are on the bottom side. That means the flywheel has to be removed to change it----but that is another topic.

I sold and serviced those motors when they were brand new. There is not a single part on them that I haven't had apart at some time or other.Screenshot 2023-05-14 190359.png
