In the mid 60's I was towing my 56 Larson with a 59 T-Bird convertable. That was definatly a chick magnet.

Back in the day pickups were on the farm or at the jobsite. Thus, they were pretty beat up. Guys driving them at the boat ramp were usually pulling beat up boats too. They didn't come into play until after they stopped making "real" cars.

Although I like the woodie idea, I think that T-Bird convertible would do well too. Or maybe a Chevelle 396 convertible?

BE CAREFUL with "old school" SUV's.

I LOVE old Bronco's but their short wheelbase (Scout's included) made them a handful while towing.

You gotta update your profile with your location because don't want to forget you're from my area come spring! I'd love to see that thing in person.

I prefer to have any clean (no rust at all) vehicle - with a small block chevy motor - plenty of power - easy to work on - cheap and plentiful replacement parts!!! Oh and by the way - Now that my Whaler is restored - next up for re do is my 1966 Chevelle (project X) that has patiently waited in the wings while I patiently waited for boss lady to give green light to do boat project. Chevelle is and will be again - Black on Black - 12 bolt rear 350 S/B with about 500 horse (Dart heads) Snotty solid cam , aftermarket con rods and pistons and totally streetable on pump gas. Turned in the Old 1/4 mile dedicated (9 second car)only 66 Chevelle back in 2005 to start my family. Family has been much more rewarding than countless hours waiting in the staging lanes at Englistown NJ and Long Island Dragway:D Oh yes and you wont see a trailer hitch on the back of my latest Chevelle as a tow vehicle. The only water this car will see is from a bucket with a sponge:)

I would go....................EDSEL.......You probably won't see another one used to tow a boat. Definitely different. It's what I would use, those car had their own style.

I have a Willy's pick up 1960 project. It's a rolling frame with a rebuilt motor. Everything else is removed. You could work on that over the winter while you wait for the ice to thaw.

Ah, and then I can tell my wife it's time to build that shop -- including a lift and paint booth -- I've always wanted :)

There is a man that has the same goals as me. What could be better than a car lift and paint booth on premesis. Then the projects could literally be endless. That is the only gripe I have about painting anything here - is my paint jobs sometimes suffer bugs prcticing touch and goes on them wet. I have to spray outside for now because my garage is part of my house - fumes would find there way in. Another funny spraying topic - My piece of junk prime gun that cost me almost nothing put out a better finished product than my expensive HVLP gun.:D

Boy would I love to have one of those. I know a guy that has a yard full of Internationals and other old cars and trucks. Everyone of them was his daily driver at one time or another. My favorite is his 4 door long bed International truck colored just like the one in the link. Would still love to have the 72 Caddy Hearse he has with the 472 to turn into a sick and twisted hotrod:cool:

I think its gotta be a large sedan or wagon to look truely awesome, coming from the guy who was born in 85 haha. Why not a 55-57 chevy belair, theres lots of them, and parts are everywhere, Plus it'll look nice w/o the boat too...or just get that t-bird convertible haha

My kids are appalled by the thought of a wagon, but I think you're right.
