First off if it is a SP then you have a model SP-C out drive as per the 1993 year
I am guessing you had water intrusion in your drive bellow?
First there are no gimbal bearings in the AQ series drives and with the part numbers he is giving he is referring to your PDS bearings.
NOW....... There is a way to tell if water intrusion made it past the seals that protect against water incorporating the transom shield / bell housing.
On the fork that goes in the primary drive shaft there will be rust from the water in the bellow. If the seal did its job there will be a distinct line where the rust stops and further on it is not rusted. This indicates the seal prevent water from getting into the PDS bearings.
U-joints with water in the bellow will deteriorate quick and will grind like heck.

3851019 Bearing (single for DP-C1 and up): PDS single will be a 6206 SKF sealed
PDS double bearing assemblies will be a 6206 bearing and 6007 open bearings (or a sealed bearing with the seals removed).

ONE NOTE THOUGH: I cannot find my Flywheel / PDS assembly exploded view for the SP/ DP-C drive and for some reason I thought there was a change in the DP-C1 pds assembly. I know they went to sealed bearing in the C1. Double check to make sure your mechanic is not referring to the C1 and is looking at the C PDS assembly.
Also, no need to remove engine for this procedure like many want to do.
I will try and confirm the numbers for the C drive PDS bearing
