VRO (2) repair, strange item in pump. J 50hp-97

While repairing my VRO2 pump, a broken air-pump-diaphragm, I found an O-ring on the piston in the fuel/oil compartment that looks strange.( Shown in picture).
Looking at the attached sketch there is no O-ring on the piston (part nr 13) and I am beginning to wonder if a previous owner has made changes to the pump.
This O-ring is identical with part nr 26. Coincidence?

Does anyone know if this O-ring should be on the piston or not?

Here in Sweden the boating season is almost about to end and I am eager to get back on the water.

I have the same O-Ring in my pump. Same exact motor.

Ok, thanks.
Whas it otherwise identical? Any diff?
I?m wondering about the rounded top as it can be pulled out of the piston a few mm.
