I have read most of the posts related to VRO alarms but haven't found an answer.
I have an '88 Johnson GT200 on my 20' Glasstron Bowrider. My alarm kept going off for the oil which I could stop by pumping the priming bulb on the VRO unit. However, I had my former mechanic just disconnect the VRO pump so I wouldn't have to worry about it and I just premix my gas now. The first time I took it out however, the alarm started buzzing about 60 seconds into the trip, the alarm that sounds about ever second or so. Since I knew the VRO was disconnected i just kept driving with it like that. Eventually, to my relief, the buzzer started to burn up and I started smelling a burning smell coming from the remote control (the buzzer I'm assuming). Well, I've taken the boat out a few times since then and now the buzzer is starting to get its voice back although it sounds like it is going through puberdy. The pump has been fully disconnected and is removed from the boat. The wires were disconnected about 12" from the tank but I don't see the wires they connected to so I'm assuming my mechanic disconnected the wires from the engine???. What can I do to make the oil buzzer stop buzzing? Is there some other sensor on the motor that I can disconnect? I don't know a lot about boat motors but I was hoping that I could avoid taking it back to the mechanic just to disconnect something simple.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
