Yes I saw that tip,but that retrofit pump should have a pulse line? How does it hook in?

That pump is on a lower HP motor that has the pulse port on the powerhead at the back of the pump.

Re: Vro replacement

Save yourself some $$$$ and disconnect the oil side of the vro , use it for a fuel pump only and mix 50:1 fuel.

Thought about that also, but I was told that if the seal goes out in between the two it'll blow the motor anyway. Is that true?

Re: Vro replacement

Most likely you'll have a running out of fuel prob. There's lots of vros out there where the oil side has been disconnected. Remember you'll be running on 50:1 premix fuel.

Re: Vro replacement

First you need to know the real story about the "VRO" and not put much creedence into stories that you hear from the uneducated who normally hang out around the docks or boating forums on the internet.

If you still want to remove it, just look up the fuel pump and plumbing for a 1983 70hp and install those parts on your motor.

Re: Vro replacement

I just replaced the VRO on my 1985 Evinrude 50. The VRO oil inlet was plugged for years and ran great on 50:1. Went to start it this season and gas just shot out every time u squeezed the primer bulb. I switched over to a fuel pump due to the fact that replacement VROs are $400 and the rebuild kits, which are the same price as a fuel pump, only work if the housing is not warped. You can check it out in my thread not too much info but it was kinda a process for me to find the right part number for the pump i needed. Install was a cinch
