Wakeboard purchase from US

Tried to buy a wakeboard online from the US recently and have it shipped to Canada only to find out that US retailers are no longer able to ship many wakeboard brands to Canada due to supplier restrictions that have been imposed.

Clearly many Canadians have been purchasing wakeboards online from the US since prices are much cheaper and the Canadian dollar is strong. This in turn affects the Canadian retailers which resulted in suppliers putting a stop to it.

If these suppliers would price their products more fairly in Canada we would purchase them in Canada. But when the dollar is par and the same product is a couple hundred cheaper in the US even after shipping what do they expect?

The economics are different for a retailer in Canada due to the short season and sparse population. You can get it shipped to the border and pick it up there. There are shipping warehouses at many border crossings.

Everything up here in the great white north seems to be quite a expensive. A single gallon of milk goes for 5 bucks cdn. I just ordered a snowmobile jacket from a retailer in Minnesota for $350.00 taxes, duty and shipping. The best price I could find in Canada was $450.00 plus tax. My Bayliner cost me 28k after taxes and I priced out the same boat in Seattle for 19500 before taxes and duty. It would have cost me 4k in taxes and duty. What the hell is the point of a free trade agreement if it's still costing us to trade?

You're confusing free trade with the massive additional taxes that you guys pay on everything

As well as the US government subsidizing (milk) certain products.

Get you a buddy in the states to buy and ship it to you.

You give him a gift of close to the purchase price and shipping.
He sends you a board to try out for the year since you didn't buy anything no taxes due.

We are going on vacation to Anaheim for 10 days leaving tomorrow. I'm going to try and have a board shipped to the hotel, then either bring it home on the airline or ship it back to Canada myself. Hell I might even order one for the kids and one for the adults.

Oldjeep.....our GST/HST is not much different than most state taxes. The only goods with significant additional consumer tax are fuel, nicotine and liquor.

This is not the place to discuss economics or IFTA but I will say this.........

Ever wonder why you go to a Chapters book store and the US price is "hard stamped" on the back $21.95 and the CDN price is "hard stamped" $24.95. Our dollar is par and there is no "Book" tax in Canada........hmmm.
