do these 2 things go hand n hand? I had a hydrofoil that I liked, but as of today, its gone:(:(

So I can either get another one, OR get some smart tabs. Heres my question, I remember reading awhile back someone saying that they needed pins to lock them up so that they would not be in use because when you leave them in use it effects the wake.
The purpose of having something hydrofoil or smart tabs for my application would be for wake boadring, getting and keeping the boat in plane at 18-22 mph depending on the rider.

So did I understand correctly about smart tabs and wake boarding?
And if so, what are my alternatives other than a hydrofoil?

I take the opposite perspective on this. If you want to wake board, then trudging through the water with the stern down and the bow up will rake the water into a nice big wake. Just look at your wake when first take off. You want to preserve that take off wake as long as possible. When wake boarding you want to increase the speed required to get on plane. A hydrofoil or Smart Tabs will lower the speed that your boat planes. Keeping the boat on plane at low speeds is great for water skiing, but not wake boarding.

Not sure about your Smart Tab question, but you may want to consider helm controlled trim tabs. I would think helm controlled tabs will add some flexibility to shape the wake. Some of the wake board boats have a wedge type object similar to tabs that is used to increase wake size.
