at wal mart today I got 2.5 gallons of Pennzoil sythetic blend outboard oil, exceeds TCW-3 specs, for 18 bucks .... my rudimentary digitally enhanced (fingers, toes) mathematical skills make that 1.80 a quart, not a bad deal eh?

Picked up the same oil at KMart, but the 1 gal version for $5.99. I think that works out to $1.50.

jrc,

Syn' oils are fine. It certianly WILL NOT hurt your older engine. It might even help in loosening old deposits.

Go for it.

RK,

Not sure about your comments!

The syn' oils are fine. They burn cleaner and provide better lube performance than mineral equivelants.

Also, remember, the oil is branded "Pennzoil", not Wal Mart. Pennzoil has a stake and reputation to uphold.

Man, I love "capatilisism" and "free markets".

I still say, "go for it". Remember, still mix to same proportions.

I was in KMart Sun. Pennzoil synthetic blend was $9.99/gal. Pennzoil regular was $6.99/gal.

I've run Wal Mart Super Tech for years. Looks and smells just like Mercury factory oil. Never tasted 'em, though. :D

We have done extensive tests on oils over the years and rather than tell you which ones didnt do so well I'll just say that the standard oil in any tests we do now is the Pennzoil Blend.

We have found none better at any price. Its a plus that the 'Marts have Pennzoil at reasonable prices and ocasionally put them on sale.

Pennzoil/Quaker State does package oils for others to their (others) specs but if you buy the Pennzoil Blend you will always get Pennzoil quality.

Good luck!

can you mix the two oils, or should you drain the other oil out first

Re: Wal Mart Oil Goldmine!

I remember the tests on mobil 1 synthetic oil, and it outperformed conventional oil in every way - now, granted, mobil was then and likely is now one of the worlds most massively well funded and influential corporation, but I think synthetics truly are better ... its just that Joe Mechanic wanders down the oil aisle with price in mind, and three bucks a quart vs 84 cents ... i dont know if its considered 3.57 times better, by the dust on the bottles I would say not!

damn, kmart beat my price? here I thought I had an unbeatable deal, by virtue of the barrel sized container, lol, that is one BIG honkin jug of oil, I figure lll pour off some quarts into motor oil empties (the chevy is an oil addict, but its a chevy, what can ya do?) and Ill be good to go ... should go to K mart before they all go bankrupt

does oil keep well? the additives dont start separating out?

jrc, these are oils to mix with gas, 2 cycles get their lubrication from the oil in the gas ... hmmm, I wonder how the bearings get lubed?

I wish K-Mart and Wal-Mart around here sold outboard oil.

Only place near me that sells Pennzoil Synthetic around here is West Marine, and they get $25.99 per gallon.

Too expensive for me!

Can get Merc oil for $7.99 per gallon so I'll just stick to that.

Kenny

The Pennzoil Synthetic and the Pennzoil Synthetic Blend are two different oils. The Pennz synth Blend does not actually have any synthetic molecules in it -- it is 100% petroleum. You get what you pay for....

Dave

To Oil Man, are you saying that it's not worth buying the syn blend Pennzoil versus the regular Pennzoil?

Pennzoil has the regular, synth blend, and full synthetic. Some people get confused about the difference in price thinking that the synth blend and the full synth are the same.
The synth blend is hydrocracked petro. It is better oil than the regular oil. For $2.00 a gallon extra (over the regular) it is a pretty good value.
