finally took the boat out today. its a 96 Sailfish with a 2 stroke 115 yahama. we got out of the idle zone after about 10 minutes or so. then i went to get up on plane and the boat was running great, then all the sudden the warning buzzer comes on, i panic and slow down put the boat in neutral and kill the motor. buzzer is still going off, turn all the power off and turn it back on. try to start, nothing, then she turns back over. head back to the dock and try to get on plane and the boat runs great, buzzer doesnt go off. so we turn back around. well a little later i try to get on plane again and the buzzer goes off. seems everytime i give it a little boost it will go off, but slower speeds its fine. by the end of the trip pulling almost back to the dock the motor starts sputtering a little, like it wasnt getting enough gas.
with this boat you mix the oil with the gas. it has been sitting for awhile before i bought it and when i test drove it, it didnt have this problem. the boat is peeing strong and its a steady stream.

any suggestions as to the problem?

Have the thermostats checked. If they arent opening up enough it could be causing it to run hot.

sounds like a low fuel pressure warning alarm. probably from the fuel getting tossed around while getting on plane. different buzzers mean different issues. check your manual to see which one

Also, it could be that (assuming you've got the remote oil tank), that when you get up on plane, the main tank on the engine is not getting filled by the remote tank, thus when you are NOT on plane, the oil in your main/engine tank levels off and shuts the oil alarm off but when you gun it, the oil gets pushed back, then the alarm turns on.

Check the oil level in your main/engine tank. Make sure you've got oil transferring.

how can i check if i have a remote oil tank? i just bought the boat, from what i have been told the motor doesnt have an oil tank you mix the oil with the gas

Look everywhere for a opaque plastic tank about the size of 2 shoeboxes... Either in a console or in a transom compartment. That would be your "reserve" tank of oil or what the engine-mounted tank gets it's oil from to automatically mix with gas.

On the engine, there would be another smaller tank (same opaque plastic), but this one is about a couple quarts in size.

If you don't have those, you are/should indeed be mixing your own oil in with the gas in the boat's tank.

Since it's new to you, have you added oil/gas to it or are you running on what was already in it when you bought it?

my boat i dont believe has those tanks. i recently purchased the boat and have not added any oil to the gas but the previous owner did and i havent added any gas to the boat since i purchased it. i have the motor oil though to mix with the gas.

i emptied the lower unit today and the oil was pitch black but and was not milky in color. i will add new gear oil tomorrow. the fuel filter attached to the engine seems to be dirty and will replace that as well. next i will check the thermostat and replace that. all these things have been reglected it seems.

While you're at it, you might as well replace the impeller (with a KIT... not just the impeller). Very cheap and you'll KNOW it's brand spanking new moving forward!

Good luck!

my dad talked to the marine shop today and they said usually when bots come in with this problem its usually low/bad oil or the impeller is faulty. if fixing those two things doesnt fix it, then replace the thermostats. so dad purchased the new impeller and we will put that on later today and i added new lower unit oil.

we cleaned out the fuel filter as well and it wasnt as dirty as we thought but had some dirt in it. will keep you posted

so took the boat out today again. so far we have changed the lower unit oil, cleaned out the water/fuel seperator, cleaned fuel filter, removed prop and cleaned it up and check for debris, and regreased everything, and we took off the lower unit to replace the impeller but the impeller was fine, so we just cleaned up the water pump and put everything back together.

so today the boat was running beautifully, motor was responding perfect, i figured we must of fixed the problem cause i was giving it a good amount of throttle and no buzzer was going off. then again when we were headed back to docks dad wanted to try and give it full throttle, and boat was running good then beeeeeeeeeeepppppp. beeped for a little while til we slowed down for a little then it did the same thing it did before, motor started to hesistate, and skip.

so next thing we are going to do is replace the thermostats, if that doesnt work i guess were going to replace the water pump although it looked fine maybe something isnt working right.

You can get a buzzer for an oil problem or a temp problem. Figure out which one. I got a buzzer for temp once on my Yam 150 when I over trimmed and elevated the lower unit water intake to high out of the water. They get hot quick.

Re: Warning Buzzer going off!! need help please

this situation is annoying me greatly. took the boat out again today. wasnt pushing her hard at all. boat was running solid. got on throttle just a little bit and beeeeeeepppp same crap. next thing were going to do is clean the heads, looks like a lot of salt is dried up in there from when we removed the thermostats it looked nasty inside so i am assuming it will be like that when we take the heads off.

so far we have:

replaced oil
cleaned fuel/water seperator
cleaned gas filter
took lower unit off and checked impeller/water pump and cleaned it out
took out thermostats and checked them in hot water. open and closed as they should

things to do:

check poppet valve
clean heads
suggestions?
