Re: was ur new or used boat a mistake?

I've got around $500 total into my boat. Many people including fellow forum members said it was junk & wasn't worth fixing. At first I was having second thoughts & kinda bummed out. Now I realize just how wrong those people were!

Picked up boat & trailer for $300. It had a bad out drive, Got good used out drive for free along with a complete mercruiser 302 engine that I am going to sell, This will make the boat almost free! I put everything together & she runs like a champ & doesn't take on any water at all. I couldn't be happier! I pretty much went against the advice of many people & in the end I realize that I made all of the right decisions!:) Even though she is a 1978, she is new to me & seems to be a great little first boat. Did I learn anything from this experience? Yes I did. TRI-HULLS ride very rough.

So at first I though it was a mistake, Not anymore!

As far as this MBS goes, I have watched one of my friends go through it. After quite a few different boats he now has something that is ideal for him. I'm sure that I will upgrade to a better boat one day & then another. That's how it seems to go.

Here are some pics of her.

Re: was ur new or used boat a mistake?

Well before my Chaparral, I had been riding in a 1984 Bayliner my family has had since new. I still like the Bayliner but even my old 2003 is like stepping into a timewarp so my expectations weren't very high. A lot seems to have happened to boat technology between 1984 and 2003. The Chap is like riding in high style compared to an old but really good condition Ford Escort. With all that said, I don't know that I enjoy the 03 more than the 84 except where fuel usage is concerned. I have a lot more memories in the old boat and I stress a lot more about the Chap but not enough for it to be a mistake.
