Hi Bill here again., On my 1982 140 johnson I have changed the water pump and houseing & thermosats seems to cool pretty good my question is under the rear cowling their are two exhaust ports I only seem to be getting water exiting from one side (opp. starter side of motor) I have changed the hoses from the thermostat to the cyl heads even took them off while running plenty of water comeing from both and tell tale has a heavy steam.. I can touch the heads after running for 5 min. I did not put a hose to water intake when lower unit was off , did not know about it ,new to boating . I have not run this in water yet only on the muff`s. Does this mean I should drop lower unit again and try to flush out through water tube or am I o.k. This motor sat for a couple of years.. Any advice or help would really be appreciated Thanks BIll

Re: water comeing from one side of exhaust port?

All of my V4 crossflows put out an equal amount of water from both exhaust relief ports. More at planing speeds. I'm not sure if it is a real problem or not-you really should run it in the lake to verify it is still a problem. You can borrow/rent a laser temp gun and check the cyl head temps at both idle and full speed. Both heads should be around 143-150 at idle, lower when on plane. If you want to have a look at the inside of the midsection to see if you have a blockage, you will have to remove the powerhead and the exhaust adapter-not an easy task.

Thanks, I wish their was a lake nearby have to take it out on the bay tough to find a calm area to work on it.. I can not find any good information on it if it is a problem or not.. I read something else where it say`s it is normal but it was from another article not knocking anybody but not sure if they are correct and reall don`t want to destroy the motor.. wish I knew more but thanks for your advice I guess that would be my next step,, Bill;)

I'd be concerned if either head on the engine runs hot.
